SFC announced today a multi-pronged, comprehensive initiative to deal with Bambu Lab's AGPLv3 copyleft violations, and with software right to repair for 3D printer users generally.

Comprehensive Response to Bambu's AGPLv3 Violations

Software Freedom Conservancy (“SFC”) announces a new initiative regarding the software right to repair for users and consumers of 3D printers manufactured by Bambu Lab. After recent news of violations of the Affero General Public License, version 3 (“AGPLv3”), SFC staff began a comprehensive AGPLv3 compliance investigation of both the userspace software and firmware on Bambu's devices. While the investigation is ongoing, two specific AGPLv3 violations have been confirmed.

I got to do so in that article in the OP!

My SFC colleagues didn't insist on editing it out as off-topic. 😆

Yesterday, I published an article on some of the rights that you can exercise in software freedom *even if* your upstream has violated the #copyleft license. While their violation *will* limit your options, ∃ many useful activities that you still have rights to pursue.

Years ago, copyleft violations were often a mere misunderstanding; vendors intended to comply but made mistakes. In those “before times”, a simple request and short discussion often led to the complete, Corresponding Source (“CCS”) for the the distributed binary works (or, in the case of network-service copyleft, the deployed systems).

With the recent news about Bambu Studio's AGPL violations, this advice on how to handle a protracted period of “incomplete-ccs” from a vendor is very much needed.

Absolutely correct for the general public. However, I believe that politicians, policy-makers, people in power, & elected officials should have their entire personality & behavior examined by the public. If something is suspect, they should be subject to criticism if necessary.

Also, personally, I want to be known as a whole person, not just “that #FOSS and #copyleft licensing guy”.

A cavallo tra gli anni '00 e gli anni '10 abbiamo partecipato al momento d'oro delle #netlabel. Il nostro approccio orientato al #copyleft militante ci permetteva di raggiungere molte persone anche con un budget prossimo allo zero, perché internet non era ancora stato centrlizzato in modo così feroce dalle #bigtech. In questo articolo del 2011 #Repubblica parlò anche di noi, nel contesto delle emergenti netlabel italiane che facevano a meno della #SIAE.
