@codebuzz GNU initiated many such software in response to well known proprietary resistance. Few examples are GNOME, Hurd, GNUStep, GNU Social, GNU Arch/Bazaar, Oleo / Gnumeric etc..

Although not all of them continued however the important thing is to stay true to upholding and preserving the ideals and philosophy!
