@tommytang.bsky.social On #ComputerLanguages for #Bioinformatics There is an era of #Bioinformaticians who learned #R #RLang back when #Python #PythonLang wasn't very good at statistics/plotting. More recently, the trend has shifted towards the latter.
I feel so lucky to be a group leader with time to work instead of just doing bureaucracy. Don’t get me wrong, I still order reagents, check our funds, and mentor students. I decided to reduce grant applications to focus more on #research. I teach molecular genetics and cancer biology from September to January, then I’m free to work. Analyzing RNA-seq data and doing statistical analysis keeps me connected with my team, especially #bioinformaticians. Stay tuned for good things to come. #science

We've refreshed and updated our undergraduate Bioinformatics #Apprenticeship course and are seeking partners who want to train new #Bioinformaticians in their #UK (well, English..) workforce, there's more info here and if you like what you see and want to know more just get in touch.

Data Scientist (Bioinformatics) - BSc (Hons) - ARU

Passionate about coding, programming and algorithms? Gain a career in data science with an ARU degree apprenticeship. Study while working, no tuition fees.

What are your day-to-day activities?
How do you a keep work-life balance in this role?
What interests you most / find satisfying about this role?
What are the key challenges you faced in this profession?

These are some questions I will answer in an upcoming #interview with an undergraduate. They are keen to understand what do #bioinformaticians do.

I'd love to hear your thoughts and share them with the student so they have a broader view of this #career choice.

Boost welcome

Enjoying my day at the annual #NorthernBUG event https://northernbug.github.io/northernbug10, a network of #bioinformaticians and users of bioinformatics services in the north of England. Will be giving an overview of @fairsharing shortly 🙂

Added benefit is that we're at the beautiful Guildhall in York: https://www.york.ac.uk/business/theguildhall/

Exciting #JobOpening for entry level Bioinformatician to join our team team at CIML! You will work with my team and use scRNAseq on intestinal epithelial cells to understand how #IFN modulate tissue repair in the intestine and to develop pipelines to analyze the intestinal #microbiota and its effect on homeostasis.
You will work in the framework of the CB2M core, where #bioinformaticians collaborate and train each other to develop new skills Apply now! Send CV and Motivation letter.

Research in #biology does not just consist of petri dishes and sophisticated machines. A big portion of it happens on the computer via #bioinformaticians. But what exactly do they do? We asked Shuba Varshini Alampalli, one of the bioinformaticians at the Helmholtz Institute Würzburg. 🧫 👩‍💻

Computers and labs go hand in hand

Shuba Varshini studied bioinformatics and biotechnology. We asked her what being a bioinformatician entails and how you can gain a foothold in the field.
