Kent Overstreet tagged bcachefs-tools 1.38.6 on June 17, with no on-disk format change. The release raises the supported device count to 255 per filesystem, makes journal flushes fully lockless to reduce lock contention, and reworks the btree iterator and transaction commit code to cut instruction-cache usage. Ubuntu 26.04 LTS packages are now published via apt.bcachefs.org. After the mainline turbulence, are you ready to trust bcachefs with a multi-device pool?

Linux CoW file system meetup – did your file system hurt you? 24th Gulaschprogrammiernacht

Which copy-on-write file system is right for your home use under Linux? Is more complexity in the file system always better? How does ZFS licensing affect the real-world use? What even is the Btrfs RAID5 write hole and why wasn't it fixed? What's up with all the Bcachefs-drama, does this now out-of-tree fs still hold any advantages? Join us and freely discuss over a Mate how your file system has hurt you, which slightly non-recommended settings have worked for you and all the creative ways you have managed to lose your TBs of Linux isos.

New post: bcachefs on RHEL 10.2, or how I lost an evening to a filesystem.

Four hours of patching kernel headers by hand while the build kept inventing new ways to fail. Hit setenforce 0 out of pure reflex (it was Secure Boot, not SELinux). Gave up, switched to Fedora, worked in two minutes.

I tried REALLY hard. The kernel was right.

bcachefs on RHEL 10.2: The Kernel That Said No

A few months ago I bullied RHEL onto a ZFS root and it worked. This time I tried to get bcachefs running on RHEL 10, lost a whole evening to compile errors, and the kernel won. Here is the autopsy,...

Looks like #bcachefs is making progress. (Just not as fast as I wish it to.)

Nevertheless..., I should go and test it myself, right?

Bcachefs in 2026: Ready or Not | SumGuy's Ramblings

Bcachefs landed in Linux mainline but controversy followed fast. An honest look at stability, performance, and whether it belongs in your home lab in 2026.

Bcachefs 1.38 fixes mount stalls, improves discard handling, and speeds up snapshot-heavy systems with journal and allocator changes.

In my mind, every time I read #bcachefs, I'm always pronouncing it as B-C-A-Chefs instead of B-Cache-FS.

This, unfortunately, cannot stop

Haven't looked at this since I broke it. There really isn't any way to recover that #filesystem or files is there?

Most of my files were backed up one way or another. I'm sure I'm losing some things, but shouldn't be anything too important or critical, luckily.

I suppose this is an opportunity to redo the hard drive all together and maybe it's time I tried something other than #ext4. I don't think I would use #bcachefs tho, so I suppose that only leaves #zfs. Idk, need to do some reading.
