Neuer Artikel im Blog: Serielle Konsole bei Debian 🐧

Wer seine VMs virtualisiert hat, kennt das Problem: Man will mal eben draufschauen, aber SSH ist noch nicht bereit oder es lohnt sich nicht extra VNC/SPICE aufzusetzen.

Mit ein paar Anpassungen an GRUB klappt der Zugriff direkt über virsh console – ganz ohne grafische Oberfläche.

Das Vorgehen lässt sich übrigens fast 1:1 auf andere Distributionen übertragen, nur das Kommando zum Neuschreiben von GRUB unterscheidet sich.

Okay, Real Life #Question.

Virtualbox or QEMU? I don't do anything special, but would like to try a new emulator. Virtualbox works. However, my laptop has been having trouble with the last couple of releases. My workstation is in storage so I can't compare the difference between machines.

The 7.2.4 release had a problem with it pegging a CPU core at 100%.

The 7.2.8 branch screws with the Parcellite clipboard manager on the host machine (my laptop). I have to kill its process and relaunch it for it to function again. It also steps on Bluetooth somehow, but I've too distracted with the clipboard thing to be able to describe how.

I am constantly pleasantly surprised. Since #Nextcloud flagged that PHP 8.2 would soon be too old, I just upgraded the server from 12 to #Debian13 #Trixie. Aside from changing to php8.4-fpm in the Nginx config and installing a few additional PHP modules, it was an incredibly smooth process. Kudos to the maintainers!
