I made* a salad** for lunch.

* put together in a bowl
** a mix of lettuce tomatoes radish and peanuts with a bit of honey mustard dressing

This was, I imagine, not unhealthy. It was not interesting to eat, and, apart from the peanuts, I don’t particularly like what I can taste of them.

I had hopes for the radishes, but they were bland, and what pepperiness there was is not enjoyable, but just something that I can actually taste.

I realised, though, that the mix was better than each thing on its own. Each bite being a different selection of things I don’t much like is better than bite after bite of the same thing I don’t much like.

Does anyone suffering from near total #anosmia as a result of #LongCovid ever have their smell come back briefly for a minute or two at sporadic, (weekly or longer) intervals?

Great news - a treatment that's low risk, convenient and (should be) low-cost as well.

I found this study interesting for the physiology and biochemistry - (definitely not a convenient or low-cost treatment):

There’s a thread about smells at the moment, and I’m fine with that, most people have a working sense of smell, after all, but it reminds me that the secondary loss of smell memory — being unable to remember what something smells like — is just as significant as the anosmia.

#DNA evidence from the couch on which #Hitler killed himself shows that he likely suffered from #KallmannSyndrome, a genetic condition consistent with speculation that he had an undescended #testicle.

He may also have had low #testosterone and/or a #micropenis, and possibly a diminished or absent sense of #smell.

Study finds Hitler likely had micropenis, genetic disorder | The Jerusalem Post

Fabric cut from the sofa on which Hitler killed himself contained DNA, which was analyzed to reveal that Hitler likely had a genetic condition that disrupts normal sexual development.

Breakthrough treatment shows promise for smell loss after head injuries

A new treatment using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections has shown promising results in helping people recover their sense of smell after head injuries, according to a preliminary study published in the November issue of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, the peer-reviewed journal of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Foundation (AAO-HNSF).

While it may go unnoticed, loss of smell may linger for years after COVID-19

Interesting to read this press release on a new US study that used objective testing:

People who suspect that their sense of smell has been dulled after a bout of COVID-19 are likely correct, a new study using an objective, 40-odor test shows. Even those who do not notice any olfactory issues may be impaired.

So, I am just getting over my first (and hopefully only) #COVID-19 infection.

My nose cleared for the first time... and my sense of smell is completely gone. Complete #anosmia. Holy shit, this is distressing.

The worst part? My fiance is moving in with me in under a month. Not only do I now have no way to catch my own body odor, bathroom odors, or anything like that... smell is a large part of the experience of intimacy for me. Great.

Fucking hell.

I know I should be happy I'm alive and otherwise able, I didn't need hospitalization or anything... but I can't stop freaking out about this 😭

Imagine this: you lean in to smell a freshly baked apple pie, a scent you’ve loved your whole life. But instead of warm cinnamon and sweet apples, you get a whiff of something... off. #anosmia #COVID19smellloss #distortedsmell #olfactorytraining #parosmia
