Snapshots of Titan North Polar Cloud

This series of false-color images obtained by NASA Cassini spacecraft shows the dissolving cloud cover over the north pole of Saturn moon Titan, allowing scientists to see the underlying northern lakes and seas, including Kraken Mare.

Lake-like but Different

This mosaic of image swaths from Cassini’s Titan Radar Mapper, taken with the synthetic-aperture radar SAR, features a large dark region several hundred kilometers across that differs in several significant ways from potential lakes observed on Titan.

Although hidden from human eyes, NASA Cassini spacecraft can spot these dark features on the surface of Titan dubbed Fensal and Aztlan. The dark features are believed to be vast dunes of particles that precipitated out of Titan atmosphere.
