Day trip to #Calais and was fascinated by the posters made during the German occupation in #WW2. Some are quite chilling and tell a story of the banality of martial law.

I'm wondering what the reason is behind the diverse gorgeous #typefaces used for each line.

I have a theory that wartime conditions meant that the printer just had to make the sections as coherent as possible with whatever type sets they had available. But it might also have been standard #design practice. Any ideas?

Some progess on the hunt class DE. As I feared some of the PE parts were so fragile that they broke. And some plastic parts got lost by the "carpet monster". Have to see how to replace them.

May 27: On this date in 1944, two Jewish prisoners escaped from the Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp: Czesław Mordowicz from Poland and Arnošt Rosin from Slovakia. Their account about extermination of Hungarian Jews was later sent to Switzerland, and then presented to the governments of the Allies.

May 27: On this date in 1942, Operation Anthropoid, the assassination of Nazi Reinhard Heydrich, was carried out by soldiers of the Czechoslovak army-in-exile in conjunction with the Special Operations Executive. The operation was the only verified successful government-sponsored assassination of a senior Nazi leader during WW2. The Nazis took revenge on thousands of Czechs, including the mass murder & destruction of Lidice.
