This painting features a young explorer standing of the deck of the Independence Mine manager's building, gazing at the surrounding Talkeetna Mountains. It's the young encountering the old.

Next, we're turning our attention to the mountains in the distance and the rolling hills in the foreground. The Independence Mine area is surrounded by mountains on all side and what you see in this scene is just a fraction of what can be experienced around this location.

And yet again, more work on the hat. Although not visible here, I had to repaint the top part of the hat to make the background darker to get better contrast for the stitching. Another session with a lot of detail work but in the end, I think it worked out.

Back to working on the hat. This was a very time consuming section of this painting, but I do think it worked out in the end. More detail work to come.

Here I've added more detail on the hood and jacket, such as seams, wrinkles and such. More texture work, I suppose. Also started working on the eyes.

After a couple of weeks of on and off with this painting, it's finally complete! Featuring, once again, the Palmer water tower against a backdrop of Matanuska Peak, it felt appropriate to call this one "Standing Tall".
