In this painting, the character seems to be unaware of how they look, showing a sense of modesty by placing a thin piece of cloth around her breasts. Even though her body is emaciated, her only way to maintain power in her cultural order is through her anorexic body.

This long, slender body, all matching like a present, a bow on her hair as if she were a present. Accompanied by matching pants and her brassiere that cover her supple breasts. Then write down to the end of her fingers where her nails are, and not forget lips to finish off the entire quartet.

I got locked in painting today. Not sure I’ve ever done four hours straight! I finished the underpainting a couple days ago and did the whole sky today.

Another plein air outing. This decrepit bar in east Lawrence is under reconstruction. It was known for a relaxed attitude toward Kansas liquor regulations.

The construction workers were a bit suspicious of me at first, asking me if I worked for a magazine. They relaxed when I told them I was drawing and painting for myself. It was a grey and windy day, but the sun did try to break through at one point.

I have a few other local scenes I'd like to do as larger paintings. Kansas is mostly rural but has some 'urban' too; I hope this contrast will come through along with the other contrasts I've come to appreciate.

Anyhow, I've been fairly 'relaxed' about keeping up with announcements and things. I'll have a couple this weekend along with posting more art.
