The International Watersheds Initiative celebrated 25 years in 2023. What will it look like at 50? Expect ongoing adaptive management to deal with climate change, and more watershed boards across the transboundary Canada-US region: https://vimeo.com/896352180

More about the withdrawn #grazing proposal:

“Studies elsewhere have suggested #cattle can be managed to minimize impacts on #riparian areas, but that requires keeping cows out of the streams in the spring and summer, extensive fencing, alternative water projects and other more intensive management approaches.

The Forest Service in a letter to The Western Watershed Project concluded, “the new EA must better define the proposed action and alternatives, clearly describe the existing conditions, clearly disclose the potential site-specific resource effects of the actions for each alternative and describe the actions that may be take under an adaptive management strategy as well as the resource conditions that trigger those actions.”

Today's work took me down a rabbit hole of #CollabortiveGovernance and #AdaptiveGovernance. Some themes emerged. One sticks out. In general, humans like the shiny new solution (no surprise). We seem less interested in measuring its success. The papers I reviewed kept referencing the need to do more analysis of #collaboration or #AdaptiveManagement post-implementation. It's not to say that the work doesn't exist, but the constant references to the lack suggest a possible #PublicPolicy gap.
An academic talk in #Islamabad, #Pakistan and via webinar on environmental diplomacy and water conflicts given by Professor Asim Zia (my husband) on Thursday at 6 am EDT (New York City time). He will cover #Kabul, #Indus, #Jordan, #Missisquoi, and #Kali Rivers
