For anyone interested in moving away from #Reddit: we started https://wirebase.org, a #Lemmy instance focused on #technology / #infosec.

I spun up Wirebase for anyone interested in Reddit alternatives, which runs on Lemmy. Open and general discussion with an emphasis on technology. It is federated like Mastodon.

Open registration for anyone who is interested in migrating away from Reddit. Let me know if you have any feedback on the setup!

The state of HTTP in 2022

So what happened at all of those working group meetings, specification documents, and side events in 2022? What are implementers and deployers of the web’s protocol doing? And what’s coming next?

Please do not ask me what I accomplished in 2022, I was not aware accomplishing anything was mandatory.

OK -- following up with another poll, for science.

This should have been illegal:

"SW got a $7B federal bailout, spent $5.6B of that on Stock Buybacks, gave their CEO a raise to $9.1M, & forced frontline workers into 16 hour shifts under threat of termination—while spending $0 updating SW software." - @QasimRashid

I do find it irritating when people who know how Congress works use other people's ignorance to make partisan points.

Congress just passed an omnibus spending bill composed of 12 separate measures. To say that none of the representatives read a single line of the 4500 pages is just a flat lie.

It is equally false to claim that there was no opportunity to review the contents. Every one of the 12 component bills went through the full committee process. They were only joined together at the very end.

Congressional staff do not re-read every bill each time it is updated, they have tools that show them the changes made. The federal govt. is a large and complex entity and 4,500 pages is hardly unreasonable to set spending for the next year. Fewer pages means leaving more decisions to Biden.

The reason the bills are joined together is that the Dems have a narrow majority and the House GOP is rejecting everything to pander to the Fox News crowd. It is easier to get agreement on one large bill than 12 independent bills.
