Normalize Black people coming to this app being safe to speak their minds. What we bring up might abut internal discomfort and biases that you might hold. That is not the minoritized person’s responsibility, though, to educate you, coddle you, to do the work for you. It is your responsibility to not create yet another space where Black people are marginalized or silenced.
I’ve been calculated about bringing this up and now is the time.💖✊🏽

If you enjoy someone's post on #Mastodon go ahead and click the star. If someone tells you that's meaningless because there's no #algorithm, ignore them. Sure, boost the post too if you want others to also see the post, but don't think telling someone you like what they posted is somehow unimportant. In real life I don't tell someone, "good job," or "well said," or "I love that," for the sake of some algorithm, I do it because I'm human and they are too. It's fundamental to being truly social.

I’m wondering if y’all can help me build a community of trans people of colour on the tag #TransPOC as i miss the wonderful people i knew on a different animal themed app.
After seeing reports of racism and bad moderation I guess i’m just trying to find my people. Boosts very welcome.

Watched Ikiru last night, and it was one of those films where even as you're watching it, you know it's a masterpiece. One of the best films I've ever seen.

A funny, moving, life-affirming meditation on mortality with a faultless cast and astonishing central performances. It has a structurally brilliant script which includes an innovation that enriches the film's meaning. And it's completely profound while also being completely accessible.

It’s important, if you can, to give the new folks a little bit of grace

They’re coming from the most toxic place on earth, a carefully perfected hate engine

They’re expecting everyone to be horrible to them, for many, that’s all they’ve ever known of online interaction. They’re expecting to be manipulated, dogpiled, and abused.

Some folks will slip into their new place and fit right in, others might be a little feral at first

I’m not saying to ignore abuse or bad behavior, I’m just saying, WE can do a lot to show folks how this place works and what we expect from each other

And remember, they’re coming up from the bottom of a cold crushing sea

There’s a lot of nitrogen still dissolved in their blood, and they might need some time to decompress

Introduction: Howdy! I’m Robin Hood! I’ve been on various instances in the Fediverse for sometime now! Met lots of awesome folks too 💘

I post a lot about camping, and blacksmithing, metallurgy, and history!

I try to stay positive, even in a rough world. But I don’t expect everyone I interact with to be super positive and upbeat all the time. It’s ok if the world has beaten you down a bit, we can work on making things a little better

I’m a survivalist too! And one of my core beliefs is that the point of survival is to help others 💘

I also shitpost lots of nonsense too

Anyway, if any of that sounds interesting to you, you’re welcome to hang out for a while. The fire is crackling and I’ve got a blanket and the perfect size log for you to sit on

Let’s crack jokes until the fire dies down or the morning comes, whichever’s first💘
