I think we're used to the northern hemisphere's seasons because we see them represented so frequently in popular culture (plus in Australia, at least, so many of us were born outside the country or know people who were). I remember telling my English in-laws that we sometimes got snow here and he was so surprised (I don't think he thought it ever got cold!)
