@Pinchy63 Honestly, I doubt Doug Ford cares whether he is or isn't making life easier for drivers. It's all performative.

What he does care about is being seen to address the pet peeves of commuters who spend hours driving into downtown Toronto every day from the 905 (the so-called "soccer moms" and "hockey dads").

He's not smart, but he's wily enough to know that voters in the suburban belt around Toronto are the ones who get him elected, not the kinds of the far-right nutjobs that Danielle Smith, Scott Moe, or Pierre Poilievre think they have to pander to.

Fact check: Pierre Poilievre’s misinformation on Joe Rogan’s podcast disrespects Canadians

By promoting politically expedient misinformation on a show like Joe Rogan’s, Pierre Poilievre appears intent on pushing dangerous and misleading claims that resonate only with his base.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m officially switching to supporting the provincial Greens moving forward from here. The BC NDP should just admit that the acronym stands for “Neo-liberals Duping Progressives” and be done with it. This is grotesque, undemocratic, and unconscionable on every level.

A note to many Canadian Mastodon instances. There's some kerfuffle lately about moving instances. Notice that many such Canadian instances are using top level domains that are NOT Canadian (anything that is not .CA)

All these instances are not Canadian because the domain is controlled by US or other foreign entities and can be cut off at a whim.

Macfarlane is on fire here:

“[Danielle] Smith’s vision is one that would create a nightmarish, dystopian underclass. It is a cruel, inherently racist agenda, straight from the far-right populist playbook we have seen play out in the United States and other western countries. It is anti-Canadian.”

Good Morning #Canada
Technically Black Canadians, recently emancipated, earned the right to vote in 1837. However the reality of #VotingRights was very different for them, for women, Indigenous people, and poor Canadians. The history of voting rights in Canada was messy, unfair, and full of examples where our government abused their power.
Remember, voting is a privilege achieved through significant struggle. Don't squander it.

The chaotic story of the right to vote in Canada | CMHR

The story of the right to vote in Canada is the story of a centuries‐long struggle to extend democratic rights to all citizens. It’s a chaotic tale that includes rebellions and riots, as well as protests, and visits to the Supreme Court of Canada. Without further ado, here is the story of voting rights in what is now Canada.

The documents corroborate for the first time that the RCMP used covert electronic surveillance and wiretaps to monitor the telephones of the offices of the National Indian Brotherhood (NIB) — now the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) — in Ottawa during the mid-'70s.

How the RCMP spied on Indigenous organizations — and how we broke the story | CBC News

Today, we begin publishing a series of exclusive stories that expose a sweeping RCMP program of surveillance, disruption and infiltration of Indigenous organizations between 1968 and 1982. Though long suspected by Indigenous leaders across Canada, the scope and scale of the spy program has remained hidden behind walls of government secrecy, until now.
