I was just informed the farmer adjacent to my bee yard planted 10 acres of sunflowers a week ago. A major plus for the HarpHives Apiary! Sunflowers bloom late in the summer and it's pollen is a natural medicine to bees that can treat gut issues. Apparently the honey is tasty too but that's about third or fourth on my list of pros, the overwintering aspects is what I care most about. Sunflowers will provided great nourishment for the bees.
Sunflowers
Sunflowers can actually have anywhere from 34 to 89 petals, depending on the size and variety. Another fun fact: many sunflowers track the sun across the sky, a behavior called heliotropism.

Chaos gardening is totally my jam. 😆

If you're in PNW & love sunflowers but have limited gardening space - I would recommend the native perennial #WoolySunflower aka #OregonSunshine. It's a miniature native sunflower - very easy to grow from seeds. They do well in pots or in the ground. Pollinators love their bright, cheery flowers 💛🐝💛🌼
