«Mittagsschläfchen zwischen den Welten»

Herr Kreidl legte sich zum Mittagsschlaf hin – nicht ins Bett, sondern in eine Zwischenzeit. „Ich schlafe nicht“, stellte er fest, „ich besuche die Lücke zwischen Jetzt und Gleich.“

Die Sonne hielt den Atem an, die Uhr vergaß zu ticken, und der Rauhhaardackel legte sich wie ein Komma neben ihn.

@feather1952 I suspect me too...

A few years ago, at least twice a week someone posted the rotating, extending wooden table gif to the fediverse, because they saw it for the first time and were fascinated by it. It became a bit annoying, but it has recently disappeared from the fediverse, it seems. I kinda miss being annoyed by it. So. Here it is again :)

Originally known as a Jupe table, named after the inventor Robert Jupe, who patented it in 1835.

This is the Fletcher Capstan table: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyZYQ_rhBPs

@skribe Ugh, you're probably right, plus as Adam just said if he remembers correctly, the characters in the game needed anti-rejection medication every day too, and I'm all for avoiding that.

Oh well, I guess for now I am happy to be able to access and pay for specs. I also got some new frames which are lighter and don't have the annoying little rubber stoppers on the end of the wings that pull my hair out whenever I take my glasses off, so that's a win, too

@feather1952 I was just talking to the dentist about growing a third set of teeth! Apparently there is research ongoing... let's hope they hurry!

Settling in for a sit. Join me now, or whenever you read this toot. Even if it's just for one breath.
#sitTogether

I went and got my eyes tested today, and I've ordered some new glasses despite the kick in the guts to my savings account.

I'm so impressed by the amazing tech nowadays that can help me see better, but it's a sad fact that my vision now -- impaired as it might be -- is the best it's going to be.

There's a game called Deus Ex where the characters have 'augmentations' using nanotechnology (or something) and they improve/enhance human abilities and friends, if this technology were available and accessible today, you'd better believe I would get it in a heartbeat. I would so love to be able to see well without needing visual aids.

(all that said, thank goodness for visual aids, and my eyes are otherwise healthy with no sign of degeneration, so yay for that)

Folks, I'm telling you,
birthing is hard
and dying is mean —
so get yourself
a little loving
in between.
