Canada folks! Neighbours, there's an official petition to sanction Israel for its war crimes in Gaza, by suspending the Canada-Israel free trade agreement.

Can we get this more signatures than the 28,788 that signed the current highest petition by signature count?

@cargot_robbie Signed. Thanks for posting this.
@cargot_robbie signed. Thank you for sharing this.
@cargot_robbie I'm not in Canada, so sadly I can't sign the petition, but I can boost the hell out of it!
@cargot_robbie Done. The genocide is a stain on Canada and the world.
@cargot_robbie @sundogplanets Before people try to be “on the good side” and save the world, it would make sense to take a closer look at the actual situation instead of judging what is happening mainly through Hamas propaganda.

@meNeither @cargot_robbie @sundogplanets Please piss all the way off with your genocide, apartheid apologist bullshit.

If what Israel is doing isn’t a crime, why do they refuse to let western media anywhere near Gaza? And how come they target journalists that are already there? (Which is also a war crime btw.)

@alextm @cargot_robbie @sundogplanets This post is a good example of radicalization through disinformation.

@meNeither @cargot_robbie @sundogplanets This isn’t radicalization. This is a petition to stop support for a country that’s clearly doing some incredibly bad shit whether or not it technically qualifies as “genocide”.

Looking back on this moment in 20 years, if I’m wrong, and this isn’t actually a genocide, I’m still going to feel ok about trying to help a group of people who are clearly suffering. How are you going to feel if you are wrong and supported the country doing the genocide?

@alextm @cargot_robbie @sundogplanets What I see is the resurgence of a radical anti-Semitism movement, which is spreading mainly on the left and dividing progressives. In my opinion, this has already negatively influenced the US election and it will be the breeding ground for unspeakable things in the future (I see the history of my country: đŸ‡©đŸ‡Ș). 1/2
@alextm @cargot_robbie @sundogplanets It's become virtually impossible to talk about the issue without being picked on by some side (“Please piss all the way off”). I want to be able to criticize Bibi without being drowned in a flood of Hamas propaganda and anti-Semitism. 2/2
@meNeither @cargot_robbie @sundogplanets Being against the actions of the Israeli government and the IDF is not antisemitic, unless you are arguing that every Jewish person supports what’s happening right now, and we both know that’s not true.
@alextm @cargot_robbie @sundogplanets I have problems with what the IDF is doing, even if I am aware of the context of why they are doing it from a military point of view. It's war, there are no winners among those directly involved.
But I only read “bad Israel, bad IDF” and no criticism of what Hamas is doing in the area, even to its own population.
I am also always irritated as to why people who react highly emotionally to the issue of Gaza don't do the same with other hotspots.

@meNeither @cargot_robbie @sundogplanets “It’s war”

Are you fucking serious? It’s an occupation and the occupied are fighting back against their oppressors. This shit didn’t start on Oct. 7.

Also, and this shouldn’t have to be said, but apparently it does, support for Palestinians is NOT support for Hamas. Much like I don’t blame all Israeli’s/Jewish people for what Netanyahu and his government are doing, you can’t blame Palestinians for the actions of one group.

@alextm @cargot_robbie @sundogplanets October 7 is often swept under the carpet. And I have been roughly familiar with the story since Mohammed Amin al-Husseini and Yasser Arafat.
Are you aware of how much Hamas influences life in the Gaza Strip? Resistance is not possible unless you want to lie dead in the dirt the next day.
@meNeither @cargot_robbie @sundogplanets You expect Palestinians to rise up against Hamas while they are being continually bombed and shot by the people occupying them? Are you also calling for Israeli citizens to rise up against the IDF?
@alextm @cargot_robbie @sundogplanets As long as Hamas exists, there will be no peace for anyone, including the people of Gaza. Just like the Nazis in Germany back then.
(Which, by the way, have not gone away and are currently gaining strength again).

@meNeither @cargot_robbie @sundogplanets “As long as Hamas exists, there will be no peace for anyone”.

Don’t you think that statement could more accurately be applied to the Israeli government? Hamas isn’t the one who keeps starting conflicts with other countries.

@alextm @cargot_robbie @sundogplanets Hamas is a terrorist organization (supported by Russia, among others).
The current Israeli government, especially Netanyahu, are trying to use the escalated situation for their own interests, on the backs of the people in Gaza and the hostages.
But there is a significant difference between the two. Unless you also see the NSDAP as a democratically legitimate party.
@alextm @cargot_robbie I think Sam kicked us out. It's a shame that it's hardly possible to have discussions these days. Everyone just wants to be a sender, never a receiver.
@meNeither @cargot_robbie @sundogplanets If Russia occupied Germany tomorrow, would you be upset if your fellow Germans struck back at targets in Russia? Would that justify Russia shooting German civilians trying to get food aid? Would that justify Russia killing German reporters?
@alextm @cargot_robbie @sundogplanets Russia has occupied parts of Germany. I lived in this part of the country and spent my childhood in poverty. I also live in the city where the main protests that helped bring down the wall took place.
I can see why the Allies had to bomb cities like Dresden and Cologne. Were the German people innocent? Was everyone a collaborator? Difficult to answer.
I can only say that I am glad that Nazi Germany no longer exists.
@alextm @cargot_robbie @sundogplanets Despite the rough start, I would like to thank you for taking the time to talk.
