Solarpunks is a Vienna-based two-person #indiedev studio, merging #science and #gamedev.
Currently working on Climate Survivor, a bullet hell meets strategy #game infused by #climate science.

Lots to do and add to the #game, but we're very happy with this first simple version of #ClimateSurvivors. Currently, it's only the action mode, without upgrades in general or the envisioned strategic "store", but it is already a nice little challenging game as is.

Next up: Some kind of scoring to make the goal more than simply surviving until 2100; improved Level-Ups (i.e., giving them purpose to begin with), and additional and reworked graphical assets. And sound. 😆

I'm interested in organizing a Virtual Godot Conference (VGC)  that's streamed with talks from speakers. Would you tune into something like this?

For hazards and impacts, we have no complete list yet, but, as a start, we will likely cover a selection of four or five of the biggest ones per place. We can't say yet how changes to the Orca populations will fit in there, but will look into it - not for the country above, though. ;)
Regarding climate solutions, we definitely have Orcas (or rather whales in general) on our list, as conservation efforts may increase "blue" carbon storage.
In #ClimateSurvivors, you'll travel the world and experience how differently #climatechange affects different regions — and how vastly different #climate solutions may be necessary. The first stop on our tour is already set. Do you recognize its famous land marks?
@alxd No, at least that's not the intention.
We want to have an action-laden bullet hell for sure, taking the fight against climate change quite literally. But players should also get a playground where they can explore different pathways through the technologies they choose as well as societal change and policies.
We will start with a limited scope and focus on tech first, but we're eager to transport a Solarpunk vision. Looking forward to your feedback once there's more to share on this.

Climate Survivors is still an early prototype, but we are making strides and are excited to share first looks with you soon.

Gameplay-wise, Climate Survivors will be split into an action mode akin to Vampire Survivors – hence the project title – and a strategy mode, giving more depth to the upgrade shops we see in similar games.

The enemies you will be facing represent climate-driven hazards, such as floods and droughts, while your weapons are fueled by the energy system you yourself will be shaping through strategic placements of buildings.

#ClimateSurvivors isn't your typical #solarpunk vision. Yes, you can create a green and prosperous future fueled by #renewables, and every degree of #mitigation counts. But on every path you will face #climatechange and waves of hazard-inspired monsters.

Build modern #technologies that can help us today to take them head-on or try to adapt and increase your #resilience. Your choices and upgrades affect the world and change the challenges you're facing — a bullet heaven or hell of your making.

We're a two-person #godotengine #indiedev studio from Vienna. At day we research and work in the field of #climate and #sustainability #science, at night we're creating our first #game, Climate Survivors!

Through #gamedev, we merge our professional backgrounds with our passion for fun games, creating (hopefully) a highly effective tool for #scicomm and moving new masses towards climate action!
