The Year Without Sunshine - Uncanny Magazine

During one of the much smaller disasters that preceded the really big disaster, I met a lot of my neighbors online. I can’t remember if we set up the WhatsApp group because of the pandemic or the civil disorder or both. My Minneapolis block had always been reasonably friendly—people would take their kids around on […]

Thanks for the fascinating read, @leyrer

My main take-away is: *we* are the Cannibal Internet. The people running the #Fediverse on a shoe-string budget, not for profit. The #xmpp servers hosted in basements from #solarpunk energy. The artists posting their works here, with no greed-driven "algorithms". And we are growing bigger and bigger!

Hello all,
Please check out the image and the alt text for a brief announcement about The Solarpunk Conference in 2026.
I sat down and made a moodboard for #Solarpunk and how I understand it currently. As some see it more sterile and some more cottage core (which is a different genre though) some see it more as Earthen. But they are all part of Solarpunk, but we can use it to get some nice color palette and situation specific toning.

I credited everyone where I was able to and I will post the *.pur-file below with the actual links.

@DoomsdaysCW Many of the stories and predictions for a cleaner future involve "replacing" the old, oil-tied machines and mechanics of the present with more independent energies of what hopefully will be the future, and really should have been the present.

I find this notion a bit disheartening, since it implies the old machines can't be remade or modified. Not everything is an Apple product. I prefer "retrofit" to "replacement", but is that wrong?
