If you STILL need a reason why Donald Trump is not the right choice for President, just consider his response to the question of #climatechange during his recent X talk with Elon Musk. He said #globalwarming wasn't a problem because it would "create a lot more waterfront property." That thousands of acres of cropland, savannahs, and homes to people, wildlife and plants species would now be destroyed didn't seem to factor in the equation...

‘The dumbest climate conversation of all time’: experts on the Musk-Trump interview

Trump talked about ‘nuclear warming’ while Musk said the only reason to quit fossil fuels is that their supply is finite

Even before the Israel-Hamas conflict, too many university presidents have handled student protests and activism poorly. Civil disobedience can and should be teachable moments in and outside the classroom (oh, for a return to the belief in and support for humanities and the liberal arts) Glad to see that SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. gets this:https://www.suny.edu/suny-news/press-releases/6-24/6-4-24-civil-discourse/civil-discourse.html? #protest #highered

To me, the most important statement from Judge Engaron today on Trump's civil fraud case:

NYT: In his unconventional style, Justice Engoron criticized Mr. Trump and the other defendants for refusing to admit wrongdoing for years. “Their complete lack of contrition and remorse borders on pathological,” he said.

A man who regrets nothing and shows no remorse for anything he does, no matter who it harms, is who half of America thinks should be (again) President of the US. I just don't get it.

As a published fiction writer and a corporate storyteller, this sentence in a recent article by #nytimes reporter Nick Nehamas made me laugh:

"American politics relies as much on storytelling as on policy. Bill Clinton was the Man from Hope. John McCain was a maverick, a war hero who put country first. Barack Obama represented hope and change. Mr. DeSantis’s campaign does not even have a bumper-sticker slogan."

Here's to a great weekend...

Every #FourthofJuly for the past 50 years, I watch the wonderful musical 1776. Some of the facts are assigned to the wrong Founding Fathers and the timeline has been truncated to build tension, but I dare you to watch the great John Cullum sing "Molasses to Rum to Slaves" and not be both horrified and moved to tears at the same time at the greed and hypocrisy that allowed slavery to co-exist in a country founded on the premise that "all men are created equal."

A bitter polemic - not a fun read (I wish the book were not necessary & would not resonate so, even from the experience in different countries), but a good one.

"I remember listening and thinking, Blimey, it's rare that someone just comes out with it: 'Antisemitism is a second-class racism'. I thought it would create controversy. I thought that there would be an intense reaction. There wasn't."
