The "No Thanks App" is an app listing products/companies that "support" Israel. This is important because it doesn't list products made in the settlements, or even Israel itself, but that "support Israel", ie "Israel" is a a dog whistle for Jews

It's a hateful poster advertising an app that promotes more hate, targeting and boycotting Jewish businesses.

This poster was on several signs and polls as we walked, a reminder that as a Jew, they will put up signs against me.

Jews have been excluded from lists of minorities and "declared white". Yet we're targeted en mass, we're targeted individually. There are posters with skulls. There are apps made to boycott us. There are violent attacks. There are chants for our death allowed every weekend outside our window (in a country that restrict hate speech).

All of this hate is against us, but we're not considered a marginalized group in need of protection.

Jews Don't Count.

Why is the concept of taking a moment to ask UK and other diaspora Jews why we feel threatened so difficult? Why do so many insist on informing us instead of listening to us? I'm talking specifically about people who nominally get the idea of listening to other minorities. They're not even trying with Jews. No, worse than that, they're putting up barriers to trying.

@jemmesedi

The university codes of conduct are very broad, and they don't specify outcomes, only violations. The severity of a violation is handled at hearings, etc. and one can face anything, including a simple disciplinary letter, up to more severe consequences depending on the circumstances.

They cover a variety of possible infractions, including hate speech against people and they're meant to keep students and faculty safe, especially those of marginalized communities.

Why should Jews not count in these protected minority groups? Or more exactly, why should Jews be excluded from these protected groups and hate speech calling for the death of all Jewish people not be considered in the same way that other hate speech is?

Why treat Jews differently?

I asked if you're Jewish because the answer matters... Jews are telling you that they're scared, both Jews here, and in numerous surveys of college students, and your response is to dismiss them.

Anti-Israel Demonstrators Force Families of Israelis Killed, Abducted by Hamas to Evacuate Australia Hotel - Algemeiner.com

Anti-Israel activists on Wednesday gathered for an angry demonstration outside a hotel in Melbourne, Australia where a delegation of the families of Israelis murdered and abducted by Hamas were staying, forcing them to evacuate and discuss different security arrangements with police. I had to go to your instance to see it, because we'd already suspended him.

I think Babka has the most comprehensive user list of antisemites on the Fediverse.

Sometimes all we have to do is just say "Hey, stop advocating for the death of Jews" and they come out of the woodwork screaming about how they should be allowed to kill Jews.

The real question is, why don't other instances care about it, and remove such people?

When we have bad people- people who post Islamophobic, or transphobic, etc posts, we take administrative action, but clearly functional.cafe (in this case) didn't, nor did the other 60 or so instances.

I wonder why that is.... #JewsDontCount

In the last three days, myself and Babka's incredible moderators have fielded hate speech reports about 90 accounts, across 53 instances.

As far as I can tell, none of them have been acted on by the remote instances. None.

Saying the Fediverse has an antisemitism problem is an extreme understatement. This network systemically hates Jews and treats us differently than other marginalized groups, even when we're the literal victims of terrorism.

MOMA ignored/erased Oppenheim’s Jewish identity almost farcically in that (great and revelatory) retrospective.

It didn’t harm the art, it was just another instructive #JewsDontCount example which obscured something extremely basic about her life and work.

Something similar in the current Guggenheim Gego show. She wasn’t only “fleeing Nazi persecution” she was a Jew.

Like, 1 explanatory placard in each show would have fixed this.

Meret Oppenheim is one of many innovative artists with Jewish heritage drawn to Bohemian life in 1930s Paris. @kolev There is a Leftist/progressive tribalism that uses opposition to the existence of the Jewish homeland as a kind of marker. It's convenient for them because the only people it marginalises are just jews, and in David Baddiel's words #JewsDontCount

A bitter polemic - not a fun read (I wish the book were not necessary & would not resonate so, even from the experience in different countries), but a good one.

"I remember listening and thinking, Blimey, it's rare that someone just comes out with it: 'Antisemitism is a second-class racism'. I thought it would create controversy. I thought that there would be an intense reaction. There wasn't."

We've dealt with two, yes two antisemitic instance moderators/admins this week- and this isn't especially unusual. It's sadly common, even on large instances.

It's really exhausting work, and so much of it is largely invisible. But it bugs me. When I see how many posts about how safe and progressive the #Fediverse is, it's actually hurts me a little, because it's a reminder of #JewsDontCount

But back to the point... There's a discussion in the CT about whether we should continue to silently take the actions we take, or whether we should publish it, to "Name and shame". I haven't been for this, personally, but I wonder if my belief needs to change. I don't know if it will change any minds, but maybe it will? Or maybe it will just make the mods here not feel so gaslit?
