Decades ago, women were told that if we didn't swallow our expectations of being treated with respect and decency, no man would want us and we would live lives of lonely desperation. We needed to lower our expectations for male companionship.

Now it's men who are living lives of lonely desperation and we're told that we need to lower our expectations so that men can have female companionship.

The common thread is that men are still fucked up and we're expected to adapt to their shortcomings.

Hi everyone,
I saved this little guy from a watery grave in the drain. Can anyone identify them for me please? I’m in Portugal, if that helps.

(fun how threat models change over time, eh?)

If you need a metric as to whether someone has an ear for language and reads a lot, ask them if they think automatic translation is good enough for fiction now. Anyone who answers yes has absolutely no idea what they're talking about.

Just in case you were still wondering whether it might be safe to attend the FIFA World Cup in the US, the fact that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers will (apparently) being playing a key role in security for the tournament should give you pause for thought.

If they look out of control when dealing with people in the US then you can just guess how they will be with visitors.

Stay home & watch it on TV, would be my advice!

Fifa World Cup: ICE will be 'key part of security' in US

The acting head of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has told a congressional committee that the agency is "a key part of the overall security apparatus for the World Cup" when asked if he would pause operations for this summer's tournament.

Fun Fact: My smartphone is turned off 95% of the time or so. I only turn it on when I have a specific need for a specific function. The overwhelming vast majority of my activities are on desktop systems, using native code or browsers where the invasive permissions of common mobile apps are generally not present. REMEMBER: The reason so many websites push you to use their mobile apps is that the iOS and Android permission environments provide vastly more opportunities for the collection of your personal data.

"AI is built on the collective knowledge of humankind."

No. Nononononono. It is not built on _knowledge_, it it built on _data_. And not everyone's experiences are available as data, many communities are excluded. Also: "Collective" implies some sort of collaboration and shared activity. But "AI" is just accumulation by a few powerful.

So No. It's not collective but extractive, not knowledge but data, not humankind but the hegemonic western view. Everything in that statement is wrong.

Does advertising really work?
Everyone I know mutes TV ads when they come on.
Everyone I know uses ad-blockers online.
I avoid sites that say 'You can't view this site unless you turn off your ad-blocker.'
And some ads are so annoying &/or repetitive that I refuse to use the product on principle.

Think twice before setting up a new account using your Google, Facebook or Apple sign-in.

This gives 3rd party sites access to information connected to your account that could be sold on.

✅️ Always create a new account with a separate email and password.
