Think twice before setting up a new account using your Google, Facebook or Apple sign-in.

And don't use your real personal information, unless you really need to.

Official government form, heath insurance, loan application= ok

Random website, you want to access a couple of times. A free app game, a news site. They don't need to know your real name and birthdate.

Need to verify a email address? Mailinator has free inboxes

@openrightsgroup On one hand, the sheer number of people that cannot create an account in a service I maintain because they don't know how to use email is huge! "Check the spam folder!" isn't enough, some people have their inbox full.
Turns out that it's better for Google to charge for inbox space, who guessed? They create an issue — limited storage — and solutions — social login and Google One — while not providing proper solutions — like a good email cleaning tool.
On the other hand, we are in Mastodon, most people here know tech quite well, I hope people here don't have those issues.

Edit: I can't choose the service the users of my app use and, of course, it would be disastrous if I blocked a user because they use Gmail or Facebook, it would hurt sales!

Is it me that doesn't write well or are you a bot or bot-like person that treats anti-big tech like if you were preaching a religion? No, I don't need preaching here, not that we are not from the same religion, I block Facebook, but you are being annoying as fuck, I'm going to block you.

@openrightsgroup the fact that most websites go out of their way to hide the possibility of registering with an email/password couple should is a strong signal that it's the best way for you, not them
