I had a chance to talk with Henry Ajder of the Jesus College Cambridge on generative AI. It can be a great co-pilot in many jobs, but should it be more than that?

Grief is a normal reaction to the death of a loved one. But sometimes, the grief won't ebb away. Like in my mom's case. When my sister died, she got stuck in grief. For 30 years, it took away all the joy and meaning from her life.

It doesn't have to be like that. Despite being a new condition, an effective therapy does exist.

Interview: metascientist @smirandafield talked with me about why publishing in top journals is only for the rich, why it costs the same to publish in #Nature whether you're in the US or Bolivia, and how some publishers make you pay extra for print copies that are never produced.

Sarahanne Field Wants To Put the "Open" Back Into Open Science

Open Science hasn’t quite kept its promise to transform research into a fully transparent and accessible enterprise. One of its most bizarre excesses is the immense publication fees that scientists incur if they want to get published. Metascientist S...

How Academic Bullying Led This Data Scientist to Open Science

Not long after embarking on her PhD, data scientist Paola Chiara Masuzzo began to feel she was being coaxed into writing research papers primarily for one self-serving purpose: publishing in respected journals to increase the prestige of others. Fed ...

In late 2021, I interviewed @pcmasuzzo on status, money and elitism in research. She said:

"If you have positive, 'sexy' results, journals say: Sure, we will publish you. Results that are not affirming are way less likely to get published, though they are just as important."

Still valid. Read the whole piece here:
