@Spikiii wonderful color choices!!

hi friends!! i remembered my login here (a website i want to use more, considering how much better the vibes are)

https://blog.valknight.xyz/framebroken.html here's a blog post about the framework laptop and my thoughts about it; it's a post that's been kicking around my drive for a few months, but, for some reason Today Was the Day to publish it.

Framework? I sure hope it does

the good, the bad, and the very ugly of the framework laptop

@danana_dread I vibe with this UI so much ahhhh

Turns out getting physics-driven characters to not walk off ledges is actually kind of hard?

Like, you can't just detect an overlap between some 3D shapes, and where you're planning to move, and stop the move when they'd collide.

You need to detect where geometry *isn't*, then make up some rules to restrict physics manually, based on a specific absence you can prove.

Settled on predicting if a character won't be on ground, if it moves in each of the cardinal directions this frame, and if so, it negates any movement along that direction.

Not perfect yet, but it's a start!

trans people are visible in defiance of powerful forces that seek to destroy us. sometimes we choose this, in order to fight back and light the way for others. many other times we do not, but visibility becomes a requirement for our survival

visibility saves us, but it can also destroy us, and the prominent and vulnerable among us get singled out and picked off one by one by the whirlwind of hatred and intolerance that threatens to consume us all

each one of us has to calculate along the axes of our own personal privilege how much visibility we can afford, how much is necessary, and how much we think can get away with before we too are in danger of being destroyed. it's not an easy calculation for anyone to make

so i guess what i'm saying is, don't take this lightly. it's not just fun selfies and trans joy. we are fighting for our collective survival and the stakes could not be higher

and if you're cis, today is a good day to donate to trans mutual aid campaigns, and reflect on how often we are forced to put ourselves at great personal risk just to survive

This Trans Day of Visibility, how about you implement one thing to ensure the safety of trans people in your community? Or buy them something, I'm not your parent. Just do something :-) it's hard enough being visible with the current state of points at world, even today

I don't know who needs to hear this, but if you're yelling at a person on Fedi for not using #AltText, stop. Please.

Should you use alt-text? Yes!

Should you boost posts without alt-text? No!

Should you yell at companies and bots who don't use alt-text? Fuck yeah!

Should you try your best to make Fedi a more accessible, and safe place for everyone—including those who have trouble writing alt-text? Of course.

Should you mention @altbot or #Alt4Me *occasionally* so folx know they're both wonderful tools that can help make Fedi a more inclusive place? It would be impolite not to.

But—and let me make this clear—don't be a dick to folx who forget alt-text, or who have trouble writing it for whatever reason; it's not very punk of you.
