Zum Trans* Day of Visibility (Trans* Tag der Sichtbarkeit) fanden sich vorgestern Nachmittag rund 70 trans* Personen und Allies bei Sonne, Wind und einem bunten Fahnenmeer zu einem gemeinsamen Picknick am Bootshafen zusammen. 🌞🏳️‍⚧️ Neben einem leckeren Buffet, Spielen und guter Musik gab es Redebeiträge, vorgelesene Buchausschnitte und Zitate, in welchen auf verschiedene Aspekte der Sichtbarkeit von trans* Personen hingewiesen und auch persönliche Erfahrungen geteilt wurden.

Außerdem nutzten die Besucher*innen der Veranstaltung die Möglichkeit, eine große trans* Flagge mit Kommentaren und Zitaten zu bemalen, um stärkende und positive Botschaften von und für die trans* Community zu hinterlassen.

Nach etwa zweieinhalb Stunden endete mit Sinken der Sonne und Temperatur zwar die Veranstaltung, doch nicht unsere Sichtbarkeit! Egal ob laut oder leise, kämpferisch oder entspannt, wütend, traurig, fröhlich, jung oder alt—wir stehen zusammen und sagen mit Recht: Trans* sein ist wunderschön!⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🫂🩵🩷🤍🩷🩵

While Trans Day of Visibility 🏳️‍⚧️ is technically 3/31, we would benefit from recognizing our trans siblings, neighbors, colleagues more often. And I will publicly be proud throughout the year as long as bigots are out here attacking people. (Believe there are at least 500 anti-LGBTQ+ bills under consideration throughout the U.S. right now.)
One thing to note: You can’t know someone is trans by looking at them. Also, “passing” as man or woman isn’t necessarily a goal for the trans person.

In March we have observed the International Sex Workers’ Rights Day,¹ International Women’s Day,² and Trans Day of Visibility.

For the Trans Day of Visibility, ESWA has joined the video campaign of TGEU - Transgender Europe and Central Asia, centering trans voices talking about the invisibilised aspects of their lives. To highlight intersections between sex workers’ rights and trans rights, sex worker’s rights activist Ines Anttila and ESWA Director of Communication and Campaigns Wszebor Sienkiewicz sent their contributions. You can see the campaign videos on TGEU’s instagram.

Thank you everyone who joined the premiere and live stream of the community video on what sex workers wish the world knew. Being together, even in this small capacity, made the International Sex Workers’ Day on March 3rd special. For those of you who missed the video, check it out on ESWA YouTube.¹

Saw a Trans Day of Visibility post (TDOV) using generative AI. I am conflicted.

Great to raise visibility but we should NOT use the very tools that are not only destroying the planet, have funded Trump (OpenAI) and are destroying the livelihoods of artists.

Cue Audre Lorde quote....
