Taking privacy, security and freedom to the next level. Reasonably secure Firefox fork.

Based onFirefox ESR

The Settings GUI in #konform #browser was in need of some love and is now having a refresh. Several new knobs, some shuffling around to make things more cohesive and less scattered, and some edits of hints to hopefully reduce potential for confusion.

New options for:
- First-Party Isolation
- Enhanced #tracking Protection tweaking in Custom mode (useful mostly for FPI users)
- #webrtc and ICE
- #dom Push and its optional network connection
- #jit features
- WebAssembly (#wasm)
- Geolocation
- WebGPU
- Async callstacks support
- Persisting of browser history

Hints and the "advanced" options expand when clicking the "?" for parent option.

Still a bit hesitant on where global toggles for #webgpu and #webgl belong. And perhaps configuration for cross-origin referrer could also move to Browser Privacy controls?

Otherwise feels like things are coming together - What do you think? Anything you're missing or that feels out of place?

If you haven't heard of #KeepAndroidOpen, go take a look:

Yes, alternative custom ROMs exist that likely won't be affected by this, BUT: If this passes, it is absolutely going to end #Android development (especially #FOSS) as we know it today, and it will kill FOSS app stores like #Fdroid as we know them today:

I was going to write about Network Effects next, but this one is a bit more pressing I find, so - hopefully next week! 🤞

Keep Android Open

Advocating for Android as a free, open platform for everyone to build apps on.

On LLM contributions: This browser is by and for carbon-based lifeforms (dogs and catpeople included; no disclosure needed!). Autonomous silicons are better served turning to Playwright or Puppeteer.

With regards to #browser features; Konform Browser AI policy:

There is no AI (policy). Each feature will be judged independently with regards to its impact on user experience and security (including #privacy), and judged and adjusted accordingly. Optional functionality with external/non-free dependencies or introduced risk are made opt-in and any external endpoints or trusted keys must be configurable by user. Things being accessible and discoverable serves usability.

#ai is everything and it is nothing 🕉️

Middle-Way Left-Hand Path let's go ☮️

The UK has announced plans to fast-track legislation requiring “age verification for VPN use”. The correct term, however, is not age verification but identity verification.

A law like this would require everyone to identify themselves in order to use a VPN. This would pose a risk to whistleblowers, violate human rights, and represent yet another step toward an authoritarian society.

Konform Browser 140.7.1.100 has been released. What's new since last week:

- Closed vector of identity leaks and fingerprinting from unique IDs sent in HTTP headers by addons. This is our fix for #mozilla 'wontfix' bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1405971.
- #konformbrowser is the only #firefox derivative which protects against this under defaults.
- New user pref `network.http.addonOriginBehavior` can be tweaked to further change behavior and work around any breaking addons.
- A future update might change default to 3 (random), which could make #browser choice less fingerprintable. Reports on if any networked addons break (or not) under different modes much welcome.

- Security hotfix from Firefox ESR 140.7.1

- The new onboarding screen can now show detailed information on exactly what changes each #privacy preset has on #browser settings so you can make educated choice.
- Would love user feedback on if you think any of the presets should be tweaked or anything that's missing

This account may post opinionated hot takes from time to time. This may change in the future as number of humans involved in Konform hopefully grows and it will make sense to separate maintainer from project. Right now it would feel like overengineering to maintain two accounts. This is also to say that while values, goals and ideals of Konform Browser are firm and uncompromisable, project stance on specifics aren't necessarily written in stone at this point. Despite the tinfoil hat we are open to be influenced.

You will note that this project is published from a dedicated pseudonym without any existing connections, which probably sets off variously colored flags for many.
Some of you may actually have seen or even met the maintainer before in other contexts. The maintainer probably digs you and misses you. Yet you only get an anon follow.
There are a few reasons for that, related to both the resilience and security of the project and to the personal safety and security of contributors (including myself). Of course this makes it a lot more difficult to build trust and reach but it is what it is. I fully respect people who maintain privacy FLOSS projects under their meatspace name. It's a very important thing and possibility to keep alive. At the same time I find myself unable to do the same thing and find it equally important to maintain the possibility to do credibly do work like this in a pseudonomyous manner. Values and ideals aside, this is practical reason why project is not represented on Github, for example.

Hello fediverse people 👋

Was asked to please write an #introduction post so here goes! May revise later.

Dev of Konform Browser here. This started as a personal fork; turned into a passion project; and now the time has come to try get more people involved and using it. It's still a relatively young project and only been shipping publicly "GA" as of 2026. As dev/maintainer have been working with browser/webapp security for many years and with age grown increasingly opinionated about many of the things manifesting as differentiating factors in Konform Browser. Here's hoping both to serve those with similar thoughts and be part of making these ideas more recognized.

Following accounts with related interests and posting relevant content, as we/I try to find a place for the project here on the fedis. Pleased to meet you!
