@tetisheri I’m so sorry to hear that’s the case for you. Sometimes, I feel the same way about my limitations, though I don’t have as many. When you throw in a high achieving mindset, that makes for a big emotional struggle sometimes. Other times, I’m able to be quite transparent about them. I’m learning. I’m glad you’ve found work that fits into the flow you need for your life. So many people struggle with that.
@Saposcat Sorry for the delay. I sometimes spend a few days off of social media to get stuff done. My story is about a woman who was orphaned at birth outside a village suffering a lengthy food shortage. She was adopted by a caring woman, but the rest of the village despised her and made her its lowest-class citizen (she’s treated very poorly by most of the village). She also possesses magical power, but magic is outlawed, so she has to hide it. What’s your story about?
@Saposcat I think every writer is inspired by nature in the areas they’ve lived, and my writing is no exception. Many of the environmental details mirror the area where I live but not all of them. I started from scratch with the world itself. Some aspects are based on different cultures through history, but I tried my best to mix them up so I wasn’t using a single culture as a model for any of the groups of people in my story.
@Saposcat I could see how that would happen. It probably helps jog creativity quite a bit.
@Harlander There are benefits to being patient, and that sounds like a big one.
@Saposcat That’s a good idea.
With tech layoffs and an ever-tight academic job market, many in our community are likely worried about their careers. Here's hoping that this year we can stop debating which path is superior and instead help everyone find the stability and fulfillment they deserve.

@Saposcat That's awesome! I'm writing a fantasy right now, too. I chose it because of the challenge involved in worldbuilding. You can use the #fantasy tag to find writers of that genre here. Plus, as I exit grad school and reclaim a bunch of time, I plan to use my blog to share writing tips, and I will work on finding a group of writers to work with. Sometimes, you can find them locally and meet up with them in coffee shops or elsewhere. I'm also happy to answer questions.
