Hi! We are Fat Squirrel Peppers, a small urban farm growing super-hots and other tasty peppers in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. During the grow season, come see us at the Tuscaloosa River Market!
transplanting the herbs from 2 inch cells to 4 inch pots. I loooooove our new grow room setup. #herbs #planting #gardening #sprouts #seedlings #farmersmarket
My plan worked! I bought some native sundew plants to help with the fungus gnats in our grow room and they're already catching gnats. I have a ton of seeds in the fridge stratifying and hope to have dozens of little plants by the summer. #carniverousplants #savagegarden #sundew #drosera #nativeplants

Look at the size of those basil leaves!

This basil variety is called Lettuce Leaf and I am so impressed!
I try to grow something new every year and when I saw these seeds I couldn’t help myself.
The taste is a little milder than Italian basil (sometimes called Genovese), and it was absolutely delicious with our homegrown tomatoes on the Bruschetta I made for dinner tonight 👌

I’ll be saving seeds from this plant!

Here’s a taste of what we will be growing from seed this year. Almost all of these things will start inside and then be moved out after last frost (which is June 20 for us). There will be a few that we get to start in ground (carrots, peas, etc).

What are you excited to grow this year? Anything new? Any old favorites? Share your grow zone if you know it!

Some plant pics. Shown is an avocado tree I'm growing in a tequila bottle as well as pothos and succulents being propagated.

Besides peppers and herbs we also grow some other things for ourselves, and if we have stuff leftover we might sell it at the farmers market. Last year, I planted some cacti just for fun, and maybe to sell. Turns out they take a while to get grow to a decent size. #gardening #cactus #smol
The first sprouts of the season! It's a little esrly to plant Genovese basil, but I'm hoping for our plants to be a little bigger this year when we have them at our first market in April.

This past year our Carolina Reapers did very poorly. Most of the seeds never sprouted, and those that did were sickly and it took until late seasons to get any pods. But the few we had were beautiful examples of the variety. #peppers #hotpeppers #Gardening #2024
