"Students occupy schools and universities across Europe in climate protest" !~!!!!!~!

On this day, MLK Jr. day, I wanted to share this @ezraklein podcast which is a discussion with an amazing associate professor at Harvard about MLK Jr.’s forgotten teachings. It’s an excellent way to commemorate this day… it also bears directly on my practice and path in Extinction Rebellion & Mindful Rebels (non-violent direct action) …. It sent chills down my spine and strengthened my resolve further and I hope you might find it interesting and enjoyable.

If you go to your place of work and try to murder your colleagues in a violent takeover, if your department then backs the attempt, if leadership deems that your summary dismissal is a greater infraction against the rule of order than your murderous attempt, you will learn—correctly—that rules do not apply to you, and that you are, effectively, in charge.

"It took them donning neon vests, walking into traffic at rush hour and gluing themselves to the streets in Berlin and Munich, causing miles-long backups and bringing drivers to murderous rage, to make their protest impossible to ignore."

Environmental Racism

Past housing policies—such as redlining—have an enduring legacy on urban neighborhoods today, and have contributed to which communities enjoy more trees, less traffic, and better air quality, and which face hazards such as pollution, toxic waste sites, and flooding risk.

I didn’t realize that the Dutch fought for their bike lanes. There’s a lot of history within this that I’m currently naive about but excited to learn!

Here’s the article I’m starting with — How the Dutch got Their Cycle Paths: https://www.pps.org/article/how-the-dutch-got-their-cycle-paths

'How the Dutch Got Their Cycle Paths'

The extensive cycling infrastructure of the Netherlands didn't happen by magic. It was the result of a lot of hard work, including massive street protests and very deliberate political decision-making.
