NOW we're talking . . . .

"Students occupy schools and universities across Europe in climate protest" !~!!!!!~!

Twenty-two institutions have been shut down as part of proposed πŸ‘‰ πŸ‘‰ month-long πŸ‘ˆ πŸ‘ˆ campaign.

A wave of student occupations has shut down schools and universities across Europe as part of a renewed youth protest campaign against inaction on climate breakdown.

You weren't told by the media about the French riots either.

The Guardian
@kevinrns In 3 days at my university :)

@JonathanTreffler

Thanks so much for Reporting.

Its time to make this GLOBAL. Students in Canada and the US must walk out, students in Asia, Australia, NZ, and Latin America, walk out.

The Future Actually Wont Happen Without You.

@kevinrns I hate to be argumentative but feel the need to take issue with the claim that "the media" concealed French riots from the public.
As a journalist & writer this regular attack on "the MSM" upsets me. I'm convinced it's a meme started by social media bosses to make us rely on them for our info.
The newspaper I read has been full of the French riots & I suspect the people who claim otherwise don't actually read newspapers. Similarly for most such claims I've seen in the past few years.

@quanta

I can find news stories if I look.

Reporters do great work, I know reporters bring great investigations and detailed studies, to Editors.

Being able to 'find' a story, is different from the "story" papers tell.

The story papers were telling for the last several months was not a general strike in France.

And on climate I know nothing in human history as important as the crisis we face now, nothing.

But today is the first day I learned of the student occupations across Europe.

@kevinrns Newspapers have limited resources, space & reader interest, so naturally can't cover everything.
Papers & reporters operate under a code of ethics. Boris Johnson was fired by The Times for lying. How often does social media fire someone for lying?
Reading a newspaper does not stop you finding news online, but does to an degree arm you against liars. AI will mean even more lies online.
Not all papers are equal. The Times & Guardian are more reliable than the Sun or Mail.

@quanta

My angry disappointment with the oatmeal libdem toffs running the Guardian is in comparison with what it once was, what it fights so hard from becoming.

Like actual Libdems it's as if their purpose is to validate one's anger at tories, but not so much as to remive them from office.

Like a neighbour out in the lane writing a blog about your house burning down.

Like Canada, 1 far right American corp bought most large and small πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦papers, but many good reporters stuck inside.
