I don't want Europe to grow its own hyperscalers. Companies that become too big are a problem no matter who owns them. Instead, lets bring a healthy and thriving ecosystem of small and medium sized organizations to do hosting and who co-operate.

(Edit: I'm muting replies to this. I can't deal with the toxic fetishization of status quo today.)

Please sign. With 1,000,000 signatures, the EU-Israel Association Agreement can be suspended! In addition to the required 1,000,000 signatures, a threshold must be reached in 7 countries. Belgium, France, Spain, and Finland have already achieved this. In the Netherlands, 35% of the minimum required number of signatures has been reached so far. So share as much as you can

The EU is working on what is in essence a new Open Source strategy for Europe, and the call for evidence is now open. This is our cue to provide feedback and input to the strategy!

If you are involved in the Open Source community in any way, if you benefit (or could benefit) in any way from Open Source, or if you're simply interested in questions about digital sovereignty, please visit https://ec.europa.eu/info/law/better-regulation/have-your-say/initiatives/16213-European-Open-Digital-Ecosystems_en for details on how to contribute.

I am delighted to introduce you to the #developer behind the awesome Wasted Audio #plugin (s): Alexander Chalikiopoulos

During my #interview with him, I (again) learned a lot. Great stuff! Enjoy reading! 🤓

VST3 becomes open-source, ASIO goes GPL-compatible

Let's talk about what VST3 and ASIO relicensing by Steinberg really mean

Libre Arts

@Jefverbeeck @pkirn @OBSProject it really has no impact on plugin availability for Linux

What impacts that is the willingness of plugin developers to build and distribute their plugins for Linux. Many (not all!) will not do so, even if they use a cross platform plugin toolkit like JUCE to create their plugins

You could get VST3 plugins for Linux already - from developers who build and distribute their plugins for that platform

I do not see this changing the minds of those who currently do not

I have just made my list of #plugin vendors that I asked for #linux support public:
https://linuxaudio.dev/linux-support-request-tracking

Do you think the name “Linux Support Request Tracking” makes sense, or do you have a better suggestion?

Also, please let me know if you spot any vendors missing from this list.

Thank you for your help! 🙌

Linux Support Request Tracking | Linux Audio Development (LAD)

LAD aims to make Linux more attractive as a platform for computer-based music production.

I know there's a general "cause fatigue" with the current state of the world, and I feel it too.

But in my years working in privacy,
I don't think I've seen anything as terrifying as this European Chat Control proposal. And I'm not even European.

Everyone needs to pay
much more attention and be much more worried and outraged about this.

This proposal is the most dystopian glimpse into a horrible authoritarian future I have seen so far in the West.

It looks dismal, but we can still stop it
if we all work TOGETHER NOW ✊

There isn't much time left though,
so don't put it to next week.

Democracy dies in silence.

The final vote is on October 14th,
but media and representatives need to receive your messages NOW, so they have enough time to act on it.

The battle to stop Chat Control continues, act now!

Unfortunately, the battle against Chat Control continues this month. For human rights, for civil liberties, for safety, and for democracy, this privacy-wrecking proposal must be stopped. We need your help to fight with us!

Please spread the word.

I love that we are at the point, where people will submit pull-requests of "fixes", which either don't do anything except move around some bits and pieces or simply ignore real errors instead of propagating them, because an AI told them so...

Don't get me wrong, I love contributions and I love teaching people even if I would've been able to solve the problem quicker on my own. But you need to make an attempt to understand the problem at hand to solve it! If you do, I don't even really care if you used some AI code completion, even though I would prefer if you didn't buy into this crap. But otherwise all this does is eat up my time...

Why do people not understand that the problem with programming isn't writing the code, but figuring out what code to write in the first place.
