A Horrific Fire
I was going to my schatje.
It was somewhere in the early morning 02:30hrs
As I was approaching the neighborhood where she lives, the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up; that indicated Mortal Danger. This was at a distance of about 7 minutes from destination.
When I was 2 minutes out I could see the fire, massive flames, meters high in the street where my schatje lives. When I reached there the scene was much more horrific than I captured in the two photographs that I shared.
Multiple buildings were ablaze.
A hellish scenario
It was the other side of where she lives. The fire was so intense that we could not go closer than across the street, which was about 12 meters. One Of The Women immediately ran towards me; she only had a pangi on, her top was open. She give me her phone begging me to call the fire department.
My report was short
- four buildings a blaze
- fire jumping towards others
- name of the street
- estimated time of Fire
I appended my name and my ID number at the end of the call and drop the line.
The fire department called back in eight seconds, they shot a couple of questions which I answered methodically and fast; they dropped the line
The fire department is normally eight minutes out.
They arrived in six with the small fire engines. The others arrived two minutes afterwards. The work was executed methodically. The power company was mobilized and they came along with the fire department cutting off all the power to the neighborhood which was in danger.
It took less than ninety seconds to have the first fire hoses deployed and to start with methodically isolating the fire from the other buildings since what was burning, was already lost.
The Last Trucks which arrived were The Water Reserve Trucks; Massive Trucks with GIANT tanks.
It took the fire department more than fourty five minutes to have the fires isolated so that other buildings wouldn't catch a blaze. It took the buildings about an hour extra to totally burn out. The fire was declared under control, a couple of hours after my phone call.
The fire experience has an aftertaste. I shall talk about that in another toot
