@ChrisMayLA6 @davidallengreen Very informative, as usual.

Explaining a 31-month sentence for a tweet

Apropos of several things floating across my TL, I just want to say as somebody who teaches college:

Yes, absolutely, politically conservative students on campus end up feeling uncomfortable in their views, constantly challenged. 100%.

So do leftists.

So do centrists.

So do students who attempt to be apolitical.

Nobody gets to hang out on campus feeling comfortable and cushy in their worldview. That is…you know…kind of the point of the place.

Why is this here? Right now, UK could (and should) be on 100% renewable energy. But we have 2.4GW of gas generation online. Sure this isn’t because the most expensive generation sets the price? 🧐

Dear #BBCNews

Maybe people would better understand the criminal sentence if you referred to this as a "violent tweet", not a "racist tweet".

The judge is clear that the sentence was directly tied to her incitement to violence (eg, burning down migrant hotels).

How Lucy Connolly's racist tweet sparked a free speech row

Lucy Connolly lost her appeal against her race-hate jail sentence, but is free speech under threat?

Can someone explain what is going on with this roofline? The street is flat, so why does it slope? 🤷‍♂️ #architecture

Announcing: https://justaqrcode.com.

Tired of "free" QR code generators that are full of ads and trackers, that share your data, and that want to sell you something? Me too. Here's my act of resistance: I made a one-page site that works entirely in your browser to generate a simple QR code. And that's all it does. You can download the HTML page and run it locally, even. Read the source; nothing up my sleeves. Just a QR code.

My offer to you -- I will continue to pay for the domain name and web hosting for it, myself. If you find it valuable, you can pay it back by creating your own useful thing for the world and releasing it for free. Let's take back the friendly web, one vexingly-monetized utility at a time!

EV drivers are highly responsive to public charging price signals. A 40% price reduction led to a 117% increase in charging demand!

Great findings from a Centre for Net Zero (Octopus Energy Group) field experiment with Octopus Electroverse:

It's great to see the results of a field trial of dynamic pricing for public charging! Centre for Net Zero (Octopus Energy Group) worked with charging app provider (or MSP in e-mobility jargon) Octopus Electroverse and tested the response of 110,000 EV drivers to different types of signals. The direct successor to yesterday’s Porsche 356 - and this one was popular with the Dutch and German police too - was the 912, which was basically a four-cylinder version of the 911. I was quite excited to see this 912 at the recent #SMMT Test Day, which turned out to be not quite what it seemed. This particular car is an electric conversion (see the black battery box under the raised engine cover). Beautifully executed. (1/2)

The conversion retains the weight distribution of the original car, and is reversible. This car also has a CCS rapid charging port which is a bit unusual on a classic conversion. (2/2)

@davidwilkins that's a neat job!
@vwdasher @davidwilkins Yep, neat job.
Main appeal of these oldtimers is their contained weight. the FAQ doesn't give any information on the extra weight generated by the conversion, but I doubt it's negligible.

@erimas42 @vwdasher @davidwilkins
Electric Classic Cars, another firm who do conversions, do weigh all the bits they take off and put on, to keep the overall weight and distribution the same.

@BrianSmith950 @erimas42 @vwdasher Yes, if I remember correctly the man I spoke to from the company that did this conversion said there wasn’t really a weight penalty in this case either. I think I read somewhere that the 912/911 is a good base for EV conversions because it is light and aerodynamically slippery, so you can get decent range without needing too big a battery pack.
@davidwilkins @BrianSmith950 @erimas42 @vwdasher iirc the 912s had a weight added in front to improve handling.
@stevewfolds @BrianSmith950 @erimas42 @vwdasher I hadn’t heard that but I think it had a more even weight distribution than the 911 anyway because the four cylinder engine was lighter than the six.
@davidwilkins Well done...but if the weight distribution can be the same, do they keep the weight in the limits supported by the chassis ?
There are also more strong standards for New EV than for restromod for mounting companies. Standards are mainlly for Battery companies.
@icemanfr75 I believe it’s weight neutral (see reply of @BrianSmith950)
@davidwilkins beautiful work with that CCS port 👌
@clanger9 Both the conversion and the restoration were really impressive.
@davidwilkins
This is a clean conversion indeed. Great job.
