Can someone explain what is going on with this roofline? The street is flat, so why does it slope? 🤷‍♂️ #architecture

Announcing: https://justaqrcode.com.

Tired of "free" QR code generators that are full of ads and trackers, that share your data, and that want to sell you something? Me too. Here's my act of resistance: I made a one-page site that works entirely in your browser to generate a simple QR code. And that's all it does. You can download the HTML page and run it locally, even. Read the source; nothing up my sleeves. Just a QR code.

My offer to you -- I will continue to pay for the domain name and web hosting for it, myself. If you find it valuable, you can pay it back by creating your own useful thing for the world and releasing it for free. Let's take back the friendly web, one vexingly-monetized utility at a time!

EV drivers are highly responsive to public charging price signals. A 40% price reduction led to a 117% increase in charging demand!

Great findings from a Centre for Net Zero (Octopus Energy Group) field experiment with Octopus Electroverse:

EV drivers are highly responsive to public charging price signals. A 40% price reduction led to a 117% increase in charging demand.

It's great to see the results of a field trial of dynamic pricing for public charging! Centre for Net Zero (Octopus Energy Group) worked with charging app provider (or MSP in e-mobility jargon) Octopus Electroverse and tested the response of 110,000 EV drivers to different types of signals. The direct successor to yesterday’s Porsche 356 - and this one was popular with the Dutch and German police too - was the 912, which was basically a four-cylinder version of the 911. I was quite excited to see this 912 at the recent #SMMT Test Day, which turned out to be not quite what it seemed. This particular car is an electric conversion (see the black battery box under the raised engine cover). Beautifully executed. (1/2)

The conversion retains the weight distribution of the original car, and is reversible. This car also has a CCS rapid charging port which is a bit unusual on a classic conversion. (2/2)

Finland Didn’t End Homelessness With Magic

They Just Didn’t Treat It Like a Business Plan.

You can still run a café. Start a band. Sell socks online. Capitalism still works in Finland.

But they decided that housing people didn’t need to turn a profit.

Because sometimes, the moral thing is the practical thing. And no one thrives when their neighbour is sleeping in a tent by the river.

You can’t KPI your way out of a crisis. Sometimes, you just have to give a damn.

Is your barista still driving a polluting, noisy three-wheeler? 🐝 They should get one of these delivered with his next batch of Arabica: FIAT is launching the TRIS electric three-wheeler - for now only for Africa and the Middle East.

FIAT Professional sparks a micromobility revolution: TRIS is the first FIAT three-wheeled electric vehicle for sustainable B2B last mile delivery

FIAT Professional introduces in Africa and Middle East (MEA) the TRIS, its first-ever three-wheeled electric vehicle, expanding the brand’s commitment to sustainability and last mile delivery. TRIS, designed at Centro Stile in Italy, is a fully electric vehicle with a 90 km range, created to be an affordable ultra-light commercial vehicle. TRIS will be available in the main MEA markets, introducing a new era of compact electric vehicles designed to tackle everyday urban challenges.

New, from me:

KrebsOnSecurity last week was hit by a near record distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack that clocked in at more than 6.3 terabits of data per second (a terabit is one trillion bits of data). The brief attack appears to have been a test run for a massive new Internet of Things (IoT) botnet capable of launching crippling digital assaults that few web destinations can withstand. Read on for more about the botnet, the attack, and the apparent creator of this global menace.

According to Google, the botnet that hit my site - at a rate of 585 million packets per second -- is an IoT botnet known as Aisuru, and it is the same one that hit Cloudflare with a remarkably similar attack last month. I interviewed the self-professed creator of Aisuru, a 21 y/o Brazilian who goes by the handle "Forky." Forky denied being involved in an attack on my site, but he also lied in almost everything else he told me.

There's a lot more to this story, including some eerie parallels between Aisuru's rise and that of the Mirai IoT botnet, which became so powerful because it effectively out-competed every other DDoS botnet in existence, giving them enormous firepower. Ironically, this same concentration of power happens each time the FBI conducts another one of its mass takedowns of DDoS-for-hire services. The ones that don't get taken down benefit enormously.
