Why is this here? Right now, UK could (and should) be on 100% renewable energy. But we have 2.4GW of gas generation online. Sure this isn’t because the most expensive generation sets the price? 🧐

@clanger9 Gas plants did not set the the day-ahead price. They are being payed from other markets.

Unless your country has abundant hydropower, there will be always a bunch of gas plants running on idle gas to provide inertia and rapid response for failures in the grid elsewhere.

@suihkulokki @clanger9 Thanks, yes it could be that they are providing load following services and emergency response. If so, seems odd that it’s a constant 2.4GW. 5GW nuclear will certainly be providing inertia, but I don’t think they can load follow 🤔
@clanger9 The "constant" 2.4GW is probably as low as the plants part of the dispatchable reserve can go without shutting down completely.
