So, I rented a FLIR thermal imaging camera for the weekend, for the serious purpose of checking the windows and overall insulation of our house.

But you can also take cat pictures with this thing.

The reason I joined the Android team in 2010, and that since 2008 I’ve carried Android not iOS devices, was that I could just download software. And other people could download mine.

This new process is a massive breaking of faith with the community.

To be fair, every year or two Apple ratchets up the difficulty of downloading Mac apps.

The doors on every open platform are swinging closed, fast or slow. Capitalism is broken. Another reason we need to protect the Web.

"Media coverage of net zero is more than twice as likely to be negative than public attitudes and is driving a false perception that net zero policies are unpopular with voters."

That's because the Untied Kingdom has a right-wing press owned by non-resident oligarchs.

Rightwing narrative fuelling false belief UK public oppose net zero, study finds

Reform, Tory and some media rhetoric runs contrary to poll showing far more voters for net zero than against it

The most damaging #Brexit Myth: “The UK could keep all the benefits of EU membership with none of the obligations.”

Many Brexiteers genuinely believed:
- the EU would prioritise trade over rules
- the EU would split internally
- the EU would treat the UK as exceptional

None of these things happened because:
- the single market only works because its rules are non‑negotiable
- Brexit made the 27 more united than ever
- the EU applied the same terms to everyone

Italy is struggling to get its hydrogen trains working

Here’s an idea: put up a WIRE. Or use a battery

We have enough cases from Germany already to know that *even if* these trains run, they won’t run well or economically

Look, it’s easy in 2026 to say Brexit was a fucking stupid idea, but let’s not forget in 2016 it was also easy to say Brexit was a fucking stupid idea….

Rachel Reeves says Brexit deal caused long-term damage to economy

Rachel Reeves made the comments about the 2020 deal at a key meeting of the world's leading finance ministers and central bankers.

BBC News

For some reason I think its necessary to say this:

Anyone who's saying that we should stop blaming Brexit for the UK's economic travails knows little about economics.

Certainly, the UK's economic problems pre-date Brexit, but the departure from the European Union has compounded & worsened pretty much every negative trend that the UK suffers from....

To deny this is world-class bulls*t.

[apologies, spotted this headline in the supermarket earlier & it pissed me right off!]

Because mastodon is like a 99% male audience, I will say this: if you have an aging mother you are in relationship with and care about, do NOT make her go through medical stuff alone. I am skilled & mean enough to fight through medical stuff and even so you would not believe how bad it is. Just accept that you cannot imagine.

I talk to a lot of people's aging moms and they are abandoned & alone even in nice families. I don't care how awkward it is, you have to try to ask them about it.
