MOVING to @neurodifferent.me

Late diagnosed female autistic (at age 51 in 2017) and ADHD. Other health challenges still to be diagnosed. CFS. Trauma.

A bit messed up. Not well enough to work or even survive some days. Carer.

Most likely will be sharing updates focusing on my mental health among other random things.

I don't have a clue how this works here. Please be patient while I'm getting used to things.

Good day but now horrendously tired.

Re-sharing this thread for the morning crew, not sure whether that is needed over here, but I feel a bit demoralised that my adventures in air frying are getting more attention than human rights abuses of #autistic people and people with a #LearningDisability

This thread looks at two care homes rated inadequate by the CQC (the English #Healthcare regulator) at the same time as the organisation were collecting an award for their supposed specialist care #SocialCare

What are your most useful reasonable adjustments and accommodations your employer and/or colleagues have made for you at work?

How easy was the process for you, to request them?

Does anyone have any suggestions or creative ideas for in-person work experience/opportunities for 12-15 year olds? In the UK

Particularly looking around:

Photography
Cinematography
Film production
Journalism

These are neurodivergent children/young adults, many of whom don't thrive in group workshops, but have so much talent if given the right environment and opportunities.

Subject: Food/eating

Tell me..

- one thing that helped you as a child (or would've helped)
- one thing that didn't help you at all

...around eating & food, when you were a child.

Reboosts also appreciated ☺️

and, what's more, we need to stop letting them get away with tying our allowances for supports and accommodations to their catalogue of stigma (also known as the DSM).

this is bullshit, has always been bullshit, and I am tired of putting up with the bullshit

Anyone else have trouble parting with things for this reason? (I certainly do sometimes!)

Anyone else ever have the feeling for about 10 minutes that things might be going well, only to have it all come crashing down around you? That's my day.

Enjoying exploring Mastodon, especially the beautiful art, photography, crafts. Inspiring! (On Twitter, I followed mostly health science, policy, news.)

I wanted to share a little painting my mother did about 5 years ago when she was 95… it is a playful painting she did after I set up a mini-studio for her in the corner of their assisted living apartment to encourage her to keep painting in her old age. She is nearly 100 now!

This US 501(c)(3) organisation* looks interesting: https://stimpunks.org/

@stimpunks has been created ‘by and for neurodivergent and disabled people’, and aims to facilitate ‘mutual aid and human-centred learning’ 😊

I wonder if there’s anything Autistic People’s Organisations (APOs) and other Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs) here in the UK can learn from organisations like this (and vice versa) 🤔

Thinking in particular of organisations like @amase, https://arghighland.co.uk/ and https://www.autismunderstanding.scot/ (not sure if the latter two have a fediverse presence yet), and many more like them

*This is shorthand for an organisation satisfying the requirements of Title 26 of the United States Code, §501(c)(3). Such organisations are tax-exempt, non-profit bodies of various prescribed types

🌈 Authenticity Is Our Purest Freedom

Authenticity is our purest freedom. Stimpunks combines “stimming” + “punks” to evoke open and proud stimming, resistance to normalization, and the DIY culture of punk, disabled, and neurodivergent communities. Instead of hiding our stims, we bring them to the front.
