Long time no sea, my health was such that I was not very bothered to be social. I temporarily have stopped woodworking, but it will definitely come back in the next year. For now I’m concentrating on healing, losing weight and improving my overall fitness.
It made me reflect on things and I realised that some things cannot wait in life, so I set myself a goal, the pipe dream will become a reality. But more about that later. For now my energy meter is stuck at “Feck it, it’s grand”

Mastodon is not broken.

It's different, and much better. Mastodon by design promotes engagement not asserting influence. It's a dinner party, not a food fight. Most of what you might at first think is deficient is intentional. Before you rush to conclusions, try it for a while. Take part in this new community. Make new friends. Be kind. This is what social media should be. You will be amazed.

Do you remember the old days? When there was no Facebook nor Twitter? Back when everyone had their own blog and was solely responsible for that? That was not all too long ago you know. Now with Elon Musk having taken over Twitter and his weird and economically bad decisions on that platform we all are seeking a new place to moan about our life. Well now there is a surge in Mastodon instances.

I joined Mastodon a bit over four years ago. Many of my generation seem to fear that Mastodon will become like Twitter with all the new people. I do not.

The idea seems to be that Mastodon is so nice because its people are nice. I believe most people are nice. Twitter has been set up in a way to make us into monsters and to make the worst monsters look like average folks.

The design choices of Mastodon do the reverse. We will become a bit more like Twitter, but mostly stay Mastodon by design.
