Inline skating the mean streets of NYC since 1993 and still alive to kvetch about it.

During the day, webmaster for some scientists, Java netCDF dataviz and cartography coder.

Otherwise, a Jack Methodist, somewhere left of center and (sigh) a recovering Idahoan.

Plus various experiences and opinions of no merit.

Received a grad school's slick alumni pub in the mail on Wed. Apparently the annual 'research issue'. There was a short article within about the discovery of C60, aka buckyballs. One of the grad students involved was a friend, so it was fun to note how much the article left out from what I heard from him back in the day (OMG, 40 years?). OTOH, he did get serious credit in the write-up. So, we'll call it a wash.

But no mention of the lab meeting at Goode Co.?

There are movies you see at age 17 that change your life. Some of them come on TV when you're 62 and, oh, hey, let's stay up way too late to watch it yet again. I refer to "Life of Brian".

"Star Wars" and its spawn can F right off. (Saw that at 14.)

Whoa. So our comments about re-surfacing on the north end of the #CentralPark loop on Sunday? We discovered on Monday that the 102nd St service road had also been resurfaced. So all you slackers (cough!) who have been avoiding rolling "cut-off loops" because of crappy asphalt, your excuse is no longer accepted!

Whoa, the wind aside, Sunday May 3 was a beautiful day for #InlineSkating in #NYC.

And to cap it off, as we were closing out a day of rolling 100k, we discovered that the north 1/3 of the #CentralPark loop has been resurfaced! Apparently so very recently that they haven't started re-striping the lanes yet.

It wasn't the Great Saunter route, but I did skate to both ends of Manhattan on Saturday afternoon/evening.

Oh, hey, they took the netting off the Flatiron Bldg! Did that just happen? Because I swear I did not see this view three days ago.

#NYC

What's changed in #NYC over the last few decades? Well, I'm watching big chase scene in "The Seven-Ups" and initially, where are the street trees? But then, wow, so many places in my neighborhood, and oooph, they re-used West 96th Street as much as possible, then, as I've noticed before, just started jumping up the west side of Manhattan in half mile or more increments between cuts. And somehow across the GWB into Jersey. Oooph.
Is there anything more ridiculous than watching a television advertisement for a podcast? All the hand-wavy, "I must emote for the camera" crap while making the most pathetically banal argument.
Came home to find a letter in my mailbox notifying me of a data breach and that my PII would have been exposed. It's from an employer whom I haven't worked for in literally 30 years. (As in since March 1996.)

Sigh. So Weather.com 'updates' their website design on Thursday, and doing an exceptionally popo job of it. Just Ugh. F-ing ugh.

But now I check my Strava feed, and wait, did their developers roll out a F-ed up placement of what should be minor page elements? Nice job there, dudes!
