Inline skating the mean streets of NYC since 1993 and still alive to kvetch about it.

During the day, webmaster for some scientists, Java netCDF dataviz and cartography coder.

Otherwise, a Jack Methodist, somewhere left of center and (sigh) a recovering Idahoan.

Plus various experiences and opinions of no merit.

Amazing weather on Thursday to go #InlineSkating in #NYC. A wind shell would not have gone amiss, but still, a great day. Looks like we'll get one more day of this, and then autumn will rudely start pounding on the door.
Out #InlineSkating in Columbia County NYS Sunday afternoon, and I literally wept with joy to discover that 5 miles of a rail-trail that were originally surfaced with stone dust 5 years ago had recently been upgraded to smooth asphalt. That means excellent rolling all 6.2 miles from the 9H crossing in Valatie up to the old depot in North Chatham. And after 3/4 miles on-road, there's another 3 miles of paved trail to Nassau. Woot!

What a fun new ATM card registration on Thu evening. Turns out my bank decided to change from 6-digit PINs to 4-digit, so my attempts to register the new card instead locked up accessing my account via web. Which meant calling some 8XX phone number, crashing past as much of the numeric interface as possible (and doing it again, because first try failed), and after 20+ minutes getting a human who was actually pretty damn helpful.

So, yeah, I have no expectations that AI will solve a damn thing.

Very glad to see while #InlineSkating the #NYC WSBP Thurs night that NYSDOT or a contractor was working on the crossing at the entrance to Pier 94, i.e, the driveway to the film studio under (re)construction. (Construction fences there came down a few days ago.) That's been a brief but horrible spot to traverse whilst skating, so the scene made us very happy.

But… work is in progress. It will take another day or two of work before that crossing is safely rollable without any detour.

Celebrating big time that one of my hearing aids that was a problem Sunday while I was skating… it booted up hours later. I think there's a sweat problem.

Anyhow, it's the high holy days for my audiologist and I feared that I was completely F-ed for the next 2-3 weeks.

I can watch 2 seconds of a bright object crossing a starry background, and I will recognize it as the very start a movie that changed my life. Monty Python's "Life of Brian". Woot! OMG, I cannot stay up to watch it all.

While #InlineSkating #NYC late Friday night, I met a skater at #Pier76 who asked about my set-up. I am rolling on RB Revv BOA boots mounted on Atom Striker frames.

Her concern was about having narrow feet, I answered, "People tell me Rollerblade boots are too narrow", and I'm like, "No, they are not!" Because… my feet!

Conversation about gel sleeves to lock in your heel ensued.

Goddess save me. I have discovered root beer and rye.
And possibly a quarter of it all in Nederlands (Dutch).
Just regained access to an old me.com account at least five years after I last used it, and there were 6000 pieces of spam waiting. At least 800 from the Denver Post, and maybe half that from Tommy Bahama.
