About last night.
I haven’t got to processing the short time lapse yet, so here’s a small taste. #CabinLife #Nunavut #Aurora #AuroraBorealis
Inline skating the mean streets of NYC since 1993 and still alive to kvetch about it.
During the day, webmaster for some scientists, Java netCDF dataviz and cartography coder.
Otherwise, a Jack Methodist, somewhere left of center and (sigh) a recovering Idahoan.
Plus various experiences and opinions of no merit.

Trying to protect all your data from everything all the time is impractical and exhausting. But, have no fear! Security is a process, and through thoughtful planning, you can put together a plan that’s best for you. Security isn’t just about the tools you use or the software you download....
Friday afternoon and late night were a fun experience of updating code to 1) override the code signature of a newly introduced 3rd-party native binary included in a Java library, and 2) extend a JNI class to add a new filechooser method. And I mean "fun" in the most enjoyable nerdy way, because I haven't been there in a while. Just working through both issues seems like work getting done, even if no one else will be able to use the result for (just, I hope) a couple weeks.
As cold and as windy as it was Thursday night, we encountered three other people #InlineSkating the WSBP. Hard core.
National champions! By a whisker.
Last time the Bobcats won it all, I was OMG a college senior in Bozeman.
Hola, #NYC #InlineSkating folk. Happy New Year!
In case you hadn't heard, there's a new (okay, a few months old now) skate shop in town. It's small, but it's an honest-to-god skate shop.
The store is Mercado, on Clinton just barely north of Delancey. Despite the small size, they have a variety of skate brands on the shelf, including Rollerblade, Them, and Micro.
Skated to Red Hook hoping to watch the Queen Mary 2 set sail. But damn, it's down to 15-minute or less intervals. She was still docked at the Brooklyn Cruise at sunset. I was freezing while hanging about Valentino Pier and after 20+ minutes bailed the scene. She cast off about another 20 minutes later.
Sigh. It's so cool to be on Valentino Pier when one of the big ships passes by in frisbee range. But not Saturday.
