It takes a lot of work to execute on agile, and most of the folks who know what they are talking about and can execute do not work for large consulting companies. They work for small boutique firms that specialise in Agile and that are not encumbered by the bureaucracy of large firms... Unfortunately, large consulting companies have lots of marketing budgets and may already be in your company.

Scrum Masters are not hired, they are selected by the team.

So my advice for folks looking to be a Scrum Master or Agile Coach is to join a team and learn what it takes to deliver product. Demonstrate to this team your ability to help them become effective, and maybe they will select you to be their Scrum Master.

While Scrum can work in a hierarchy, and is certainly better than traditional project management practices, it can't really shine without decentralisation.

Decentralization is the key to unlocking the power of agility and Scrum but so few companies are willing to entertain that idea. Oh they pay lip service to it, but they don't really do it.
