Where is your favourite place to play that isn't home?
We're homebodies so of course, gaming at home is our number one location. It's the best place to learn a new game, it's quiet, we have everything we need, and if we want to stop for lunch midway through a game, no one is going to steal our table.
We've played quite a lot at conventions and gamedays, which can be a bit of a struggle. Noise, people, tables that are too small. It's necessary if you want to try out games you wouldn't normally have access to, but we wouldn't say it's our favourite place to play.
If we had to choose somewhere that wasn't home to play that we truly enjoy, it would be a hotel bar. We don't travel very often, but whenever we do we always pack a few games. These are games we can play without thinking, without needing to check the rules, and that fit very easily in a suitcase.
A few of our experiences have been:
Skip Bo in the courtyard - great until it started to rain!
Uno in the bar - we played so many games in a row!
Azul Mini by the fire - the table was just big enough, but the chairs were so low I almost couldn't see my board!
Tussie Mussie on the rooftop - it was freezing, we moved inside!
It's a great way to recharge when we've spent the day exploring somewhere new and we love having something familiar when we're out of our comfort zone. Sometimes we'll see other people playing and we (ok, Steph) loves to try and see what's on their table.
Where else do you like to play? We'd love to hear about your gaming adventures!
