@volpeon 🤩 Looks like it belongs in BotW

People: "I don't like Twitter, I want something better!"

Also people: "But if it doesn't work exactly like Twitter, I don't like it!"

Something can't be better than the other thing if it is the same.

⚠️ Daily reminder that new folks are joining Mastodon everyday. You could make their day by interacting with their #introduction toot, giving them a follow or just saying hi.

Let’s build the community we want to see. One built on being kind, genuine interaction, and building others up as we’d like them to do for us 🤗

@Gargron have you counted the number of new instances? My rough approximation from looking at a couple of start sites is around 1200-1500. That's the beauty of Mastodon/Fediverse scaling to me... It's not just one big monolith, there is horizontal scaling and more people / orgs investing in the whole network.
Elon is making a fool of himself, Putin’s forces are getting their asses kicked, crypto is imploding, inflation is slowing down, my brokerage account doesn’t make me cry, the BA.5 wave has broken early & the red wave never happened … let’s just take a deep breath & enjoy y’all.

If you voted in Colorado’s third district, Adam Frisch vs Lauren Boebert, and your ballot was rejected you have a week to fix it.

In 2020, 21,838 ballots were rejected for signature verification.

@tchambers @Gargron @atomicpoet @leolaporte @elipariser @profcarroll No crime to "lock the doors". The idea that servers need to scale to new users is not decentralized thinking. Know your resources; accept users to that level; stop.

If there aren't enough Mastodon servers to meet the demand, that's not a fault of the server admins, Mastodon, or the Mastodon community. Someone else needs to step up.

Rocco's already started relaxation time. Hope y'all get some too 💜

Here's an excellent explanation of what's happening here, and to many of the servers on the Fediverse (or should I call it the Friediverse? 🔥)

https://ar.al/2022/11/09/is-the-fediverse-about-to-get-fryed-or-why-every-toot-is-also-a-potential-denial-of-service-attack/

Is the fediverse about to get Fryed? (Or, “Why every toot is also a potential denial of service attack”)

Every time I post something that gets lots of engagement, I essentially end up carrying out a denial of service attack on myself. What does this say about the design of Mastodon and ActivityPub and the future of the fediverse?
