Interested in the #PublishingIndustry.

This was good, I liked that it was basically friends hanging out without too much plotty jeopardy. The dialogue is quite... cartoony, reminded me of the She-Ra reboot or something like that but somehow it worked. I need better mental FX artists though, I just can't imagine convincing talking aliens and for that reason I'd like to see this made by the Scavenger's Reign people. #bookstodon

#WordWeavers May 4 Describe something unusual/interesting about one of your characters’ looks or style.

Charlie is often described as a "manic pixie dream physicist"' or "mad fairy princess".

Her aesthetic is a chaotic combination of constantly-changing hair color, and a deliberately mismatched wardrobe (e.g. oversized football jersey, tutu, skull-pattern leggings, combat boots).

#WordWeavers 4/5: Describe something unusual/interesting about one of your characters’ looks or style.

Lichuen is shapechanger (within humanoid body shape), Evelyn has four arms and Kathryn has dark blue skin (with Polish ethnicity). Beedy and Potts look more boring - but that works well for them.

#WritersCoffeeClub #WCC 2504.27 — What does a session of writing look like for you?

I sit down at a desk, start up my treadmill, or start pedaling my pedal desk. I then open Scrivener on whatever device happens to be there. I start composing. With the treadmill, I stop to write down the sessions stats at the completion of a walk, then start again.

That's composition, of course, which to many is synonymous with writing.

I find that it is easiest and most efficient to revise is using Scrivener on the Mac, as it allows me to have multiple views, access tools I need that only exist in the Mac version, and to use a feature that allows me to highlight my weasel and hedge words as I edit (a combination of a RegEx search and a feature called collections). In that case, it's definitely multiple monitors and multiple windows, and a lot of either reading text out loud or using the Speak feature I set to ⌘-F12 to have the computer read it to me. Yesterday I moved the Mac to the treadmill because I needed exercise as a twofer.

I don't often go somewhere to write, but I do visit the in-laws house or rarely write at a coffee shop (Philz), outside where I don't need to wear my KN95 and can drink my decaf.

#WordWeavers 25-04-28: Do you pick the story, or does the story pick you?

The story comes along, grabs me by the scruff of my neck and plops me down in front of the typewriter

#WordWeavers 4/28 Do you pick the story, or does the story pick you?

Neither? I get struck by bursts of inspiration seemly out of nowhere and, with some luck, I shape that into a story. Some of the untrained eye have mistaken these bursts for convulsions, others have attempted exorcisms on me.

I discovered Taliesin's story in college for a theater voice class. We had to recite epic poetry and I wanted to research my Welsh roots. I read the Cad Goddeu and honestly did feel a connection to Tali

The Writer-Editor Relationship: What is a Style Guide?

When talking to an editor, you might feel like you need to get everything “right” the first time, that your messages need to be free from grammatical errors, or that you’re in for a lecture/sea of red pen. Some of us might be more persnickety than others, but on the whole, we’re nerds who are here and excited to help you.You might already know what a style guide is, and if you do, this will be review. Purposeful Prose is fortunate to be working with a guest writer for our purposes, and we recent

#WritersCoffeeClub 29/4 Have you ever written anything that didn’t age well?
No doubt. I wouldn’t want to share stories I wrote 40 or 50 years ago.
But having just mentioned my Finland books on #WordWeavers, the one commission (of 60+) I wouldn’t accept again would be the Guide to Baltic Cruising. We know too much now about the social and environmental impacts of cruise ships. If I were to do any more travel guides I’d want to focus hard on sustainable travel.
