Paying for the Past: Reparations after the Holocaust in Global Context September 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024 Organizers: Iris Nachum (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem)Gideon Reuveni (University of Sussex)Daniel Siemens (Newcastle University) How to address past injustices is one of the key questions of the day. Victims of historical harm and their descendants frequently ask for material and symbolical compensation as well as for a say in how today’s societies narrate and frame these past events.
The call for PhDs is now open at the #EuropeanUniversityInstitute #EUI in Florence, Italy (4 yrs funding, exchanges, plus generous on-demand research & conference grants; I archived in 8 states). These funded PhDs (c.120 total) are across 4 departments #History (mine), #SocialScience & #PoliticalScience (SPS), #Law, & #Economics. I highly recommend applying &/or sharing! Hello everyone,
A very quick introduction: I am a historian of modern Europe (and beyond), living in the North of England und working at Newcastle University, UK.
Earlier this year, I have published my latest book (Hinter der “Weltbühne”. Hermann Budzislawski und das 20. Jahrhundert), more here: https://www.aufbau-verlage.de/aufbau/hinter-der-weltbuhne/978-3-351-03812-0. I am currently working on restitution after 1945, with the aim of writing the first history of the United Restitution Organisation (URO).
In recent years, I became too comfortable with #Twitter, as the development in recent days demonstrate. The #Mastodon model makes me hopeful we can do better, but time will tell. For the time being, I will run this new account and stay on twitter (@Daniel_Newcast) at the same time.
