A rare gold coin has been found dating back to about 640 CE, it is the oldest coin from East Anglia. On the obverse is a male in a dancing pose who is holding a cross, which is above a valknut. This is a symbol of three interlocking triangles which represent the pagan god Odin. Odin was associated with afterlife and death. It provides a link between the pagan religion and the new religion of the time being Christianity. https://arkeonews.net/earliest-known-east-anglian-gold-coin-found-a-fusion-of-pagan-and-christian-imagery/

These are the dirham coin snips from Tune. The coins were struck in the Caliphate. They were cut up like this because the Scandies didn't read Arabic and paid no attention to the denominations. They were interested in the *weight* of silver when paying for something.

Greek DRACHM --> DRHM --> Arabic DIRHAM

While I'm on the topic of the #MysteryCoin, I better share the current one - can you guess it? As a clue, those who read the last newsletter have a very big advantage!

And if you don't yet get the #newsletter, why not subscribe here: https://coinofnote.com/newsletter/ it is one email a fortnight, not too long (and if you subscribe in the next few days, I'll send you last fortnight's to help you guess the Mystery Coin!

Here's a #coin I posted to the site a couple of weeks ago but haven't shared here yet, particularly for #SaturdayNightCoinShow

This was the #MysteryCoin from the newsletter before last, which turned out to be, the 1830 1 Double from #Guernsey - a #KM1 coin too: https://coinofnote.com/1830-guernsey-1-double/

Dear #Numismatics friends, I would like you to share a piece you like (#Coins #CoinCollecting #Banknotes #Tokens #Medals #Exonumia) with the #SaturdayNightCoinShow hashtag. To make it easy, it doesn't strictly have to be "Saturday Night" - any time on the weekend or near is fine :)

Here's one I quite like, which I posted roughly a year ago. An N.C.B. Rawdon check from the UK: https://coinofnote.com/n-c-b-rawdon-check-uk/ #History #Histodons #Coal #Coalmining #Rail #Railway
