It was a challenging day chasing the UP No.4014. It was very slow coming up the hill in the Feather River Canyon. By the time it got in the area where I was, it was late in the day and the light was fading fast. With the rain, and snow further up the hill, the 4014 was really blowing steam!

Really, really good. The UK's #NRM is truly a treasure.

A tram in #Milan, #Italy. Definitely not designed with #accessability in mind, but the carriage has charme. Not a heritage ride, but still in active use.

From here:
The cargo trains are unmanned and fully automated, advancing block by block based on the condition of the block of track ahead. The motive power is SW1200 MG single units, each having a single phase AC motor driving the standard EMD traction generator and traction motors. A horn blows every few seconds as a constant warning that the trains are unmanned.
Drawback is the Railway CLI is absolute shit. Well it's manageable, but very hard for Claude to use. That's bad for my now-regular "Okay deploy a new project for this" which usually writes the Dockerfile too). Also bad for my "Now update Cloudflare to point blah.example.com to it".
Good news is that I told Claude to write a railway SKILL.md and prefer that with the raw GraphQL API instead.
Slowly moving to Railway (https://railway.com/), starting with all new and vibe coded services.
Very similar to Fly.io, but cleaner/more modern dashboard (it matters!) and most importantly: usage based billing, based on compute/hr (not machine uptime/hr).
You can soon travel to Finland over rail - "Finland gains direct rail link to Europe this summer" https://yle.fi/a/74-20220038 (in english)
The track gauge in Finland is still different to European standard though, so passengers are required to change trains in Haparanda.

Transport Minister Lulu Ranne (Finns) says a long-delayed cross-border train to Sweden should begin rolling this summer, allowing passengers to ride the rails from continental Europe to Finnish Lapland, or overland between the Finnish and Swedish capitals.
