To start the year, we have a few questions ✨

We want to know why you like this social space, compared to Big Tech alternatives. We'll use some of the answers across our campaign to get people moving to better social media this year.

If you need help getting started, here's a question to spark your brain - What open social platforms do you love and why?

Please reply and share! 🧑

Goal met!
Putting together the kind donations with the bulk of my paycheck, we now have $1000 set aside for backpayments! Thank you all so much for donations, commissions, and boosts! I appreciate it!

My goal, $1000 is 1/16th of the backpayments we owe.

$1000/$1000!!

As this is 1/16th of the backpayments, donations would still be helpful. I don't want to ask too much, though.

For $25 I can crochet a basket for you in whatever colors you prefer from yarn already in my stash. I can make a basket in less than a week.

If you've commissioned a basket, please provide a mailing address so I can send it to you.

My two cents on the #Meta #ThreadsApp discussion. I think my past experience in the publishing industry has given me a unique perspective on the #Fediverse.

The evolution I've witnessed in that industry over the years has helped me to recognize a similar evolution in social media now. My experiences there have shown me how the Ordinary Person has eventually become empowered by new technology-- in this case, ActivityPub and the Fediverse. I don't foresee a reversal in that evolution.

Regardless of what Meta does or does not do with their Threads app, I'm sure of one thing:

#TheFutureIsFederated.

The Future is Federated

Today (July 6, 2023), Meta introduced their new Threads platform, advertising it as a rival of Twitter. On Mastodon and elsewhere in the Fediverse, the rumors of this newest move have been causing …

Threads, Twitter, and Bluesky: Our billionaire is better than your billionaire.

Mastodon: You actually don't need a billionaire at all.

Threads, Twitter, and Bluesky: Hold on, we have to ask our billionaire if that's true.

Particles from #tires are expected to be the largest source of #microplastics potentially harmful to aquatic life by 2050.

Globally, tires emit ~3 million tonnes of particles annually, and create another 3 million tonnes of particles from road surfaces.

Tyre-makers under pressure as too much rubber hits the road

Tyre-makers are under pressure to almost literally reinvent the wheel as regulators turn their scrutiny to tyre pollution that is set to surge with the rise of electric vehicles (EVs) and threatens to undermine those cars' green credentials.
