Siren

On the other side of my eyelids
an ocean
dark as envy
fathomless as desire

I slip, each night
into that expanse
leaving the ten thousand
things of the dry world
in the sand

my directed thoughts
untether,
stretching with phosphorescence and meaning,
the hours sing of lost nouns
in a current of adjectives

restless leviathans
moving in the deep

sometimes in the kelp forest
I see you
seeing me
in a hundred different boats
we sit together
the daystarlights overhead
highlighting your eyes
as they look into mine
(into yours)

Into the depths of my emotions
you laugh
and spark your crooked grin

my ocean fills with longing.

nightly, I swim after your face
moving in the waves
my fingers
always on the cusp of yours

your mouth moving
offering nonsense
and profundity in it's foamy wake
your warm proximity
always present
always distant
as I wake
thirsty
in the sand
of a dry world.

Flowers

Under all of the flowers,
somewhere in the depths,
is there a unclaimed sextant,
built long ago
by the desperate hands of a sailor
lost in the oceans of salt water
and sighs?
Are there navigator stars that triangulate to just one small dry island?
Is there a word in the shrill and colorful language of sea birds for lost?
All I have are these flowers
and today
they are not enough.

Running a fully original home brew campaign based in DND 5e as my very first experience in game mastering has been incredible. I did not know how much I would enjoy the details...map making, plot weaving while allowing for player agency, creating an entire pantheon based on Mayan mythos, and creating encounters that allow for any style of resolution that the party chooses. It is fun and exhausting juggling, eldritch horror, wondrous exploration, heart warming situations, and the ridiculously funny antics of player choice biweekly.
Mostly, I am amazed at the depth of emotion, laughter, and tears our group is willing to invest in this world that grew out of my desire to play make believe with whole hearted people. Thanks to Matt Mercer, Brennan Lee Mulligan, and Aabria Iyengar for the inspiration and weekly education.
